The officers knocked on Alfred and Martha's door with the three kids standing with them. Harold was staring up at the lady officer. Alfred answered the door, surprised.
"Hey Gage... What did you do?"
"Officer Myers." The female officer shook his hand.
"Officer Cooper." The male officer also shook his hand. "May we come in?"
"Of course." Alfred let the police and the nerds in. Martha looked over curiously, wondering if her kid got arrested or not. "So, what's the issue?"
"Your daughter and her friends snuck into a library last night, we just want to ask some questions." Myers said.
"Of course they did." Alfred facepalmed. Martha approached the situation and stood next to her husband.
Suddenly, the door burst open. "Harold! Are you all right? Do you need an ambulance? I brought my container of spare casts if you need them! Oh my goodness, are you all right?" Isla rushed to Harold and began inspecting him thoroughly for any injuries.
"Mum!" Harold whined. "I'm fine!"
"Isla, he's fine." Harvey reassured. "Except for the fact he got arrested somehow."
"Ma'am, step away from the child. We have lots of questions to ask them." Officer Cooper demanded. Isla sobbed as she stood near Harvey, overthinking every way Harold could've gotten hurt. "How did you three get into the library?"
"The door." Clarice answered.
"Was it unlocked?"
"Yeah. We went in when it was open."
"Why did you break in?"
"We did not break in." Gage responded.
"Then how did you get in?"
"... The door-" Clarice repeated, concerned for Officer Cooper and his clearly small brain.
"Don't you sass me, young lady."
"I'm sorry?" Clarice raised an eyebrow.
"What did you do in the library? Steal books?" Officer Myers asked.
"I'd steal a book for you any time!" Harold blurted.
"... Girls?"
"We read novels together. Then we made a fort out of them and did some quiet activities." Gage explained.
"Nerd." Alfred muttered quietly.
"What were your intentions when-"
Someone else walked through the door; Clairice's mother. "Sorry I'm late. My favourite song was playing in the car." Jennifer said.
The officers stared at her. "Right... At least you're here now." Officer Myers faced the children again. "What were your intentions when you entered the library?"
"To read books. Do you like reading?" Harold smiled.
"No."
The cops continued to interrogate the three little nerds as their parents watched. Soon enough, they got their story straight, and the police shut their notebook.
"The librarian left you unsupervised, correct?" Officer cooper questioned.
"Yes." They answered at the same time.
"I believe that's all we need to know. Thank you, you're off the hook." Cooper tilted his hat as a farewell before leaving with his co-worker.
"Officer Myers! Don't leave me!" Harold leaped and grasped onto her leg. "I want to be with you, my sweet pea!"
"Uhm... Please get your son off of my leg-"
Harvey dragged Harold by the ankles until his sweaty hands slipped off the cop's leg. Harold continued to cry as the police left the building.
"I'll never forget you!" He yelled one last time.
"... So." Martha started, sitting next to Gage. "Breaking into a library?"
"We explained that we did not break and enter, we were inside of the property as the librarian had closed the establishment." Gage summarised.
"Right, sorry." Martha pat their back. "Just try to be aware of the time next time you're in there, all right?"
"Yes, mum."
"Anyways, we've got to head home so I can catch up on my show." Jennifer signalled for Clarice to come to her. "We'll see you around!"
Everyone said their goodbyes to Jennifer and Clarice. Isla had a quick check over Harold to make sure he didn't hurt himself when latching onto Officer Myers' leg.
"We should go too, Liam and Lidia should be coming home soon from their friend's houses." Harvey noted, waving to the Witherwilts along with Isla.
When they left, Alfred's head slowly turned to Gage. "Really, Gage? A library? That's so boring, you nerd."
"I almost got bloody arrested, and this is your concern?" Gage crossed their arms.
"Precisely!" Alfred mocked.
"Oh, Alfred." Martha shook her head in a disappointed manner.
