“Josie.”

“Yes?”

“Where is the food?”

“Um…”

“Josie.”

“So…” Josie begins. “When I said there would be food, what I meant to say was... there would be a meal… and it’s served right before the ball.”

“Josie!”

“I’m sorry! There is food that part wasn’t a lie, but, it is for the contestants because they kinda have to spend the whole day here so it’s provided for them. Guests usually arrive a lot later and only for the ball, that’s when the appetizers come out,” she explains. “We kinda have to be here for the whole thing to take notes though, that’s why we’re early,” Josie finishes sheepishly.

Hope groans. “Now this, this definitely wouldn’t hold up in court!”

Josie giggles despite herself and Hope can’t really be mad at her. She is hungry though, they’ve been here for two hours now and so far the only things happening is half the contestants sucking up to the judges in hopes of winning their favor and the other half showing off every minute skill they could possibly think of while trying to make it look normal and casual right in front of the judges.

That’s exactly what she had written down too.

Lots of sucking up.
Lots of showing off.

“Don’t worry though, I’ll pop in with the school party at the room they’d been assigned and sneak us something out, I’m kinda hungry too. I wasn’t lying about them not touching the food either. Besides, they’re not gonna tell no to the headmaster’s daughter.” Josie says with a cheeky grin.

Hope gasps with feign shock, “Josette! That’s a blatant display of abuse of power!” she says, then smirks. “I like it, let’s go I wanna see.”

Josie just laughs while they make their way to the room. “That way we can see how our girl is preparing for the round of questions. It’s a win-win.”

Hope groans again but that just makes Josie laugh harder.

By the time they have to change for the afternoon event a lot more people had started showing up and thankfully the appetizers had started circulating too.

Josie had managed to get them some food earlier but after going around trying to get close enough to where the other contestants were being interviewed to hear their answers without looking like crazy people, which, was apparently very important for Lizzie’s research, she was quite hungry again.

In this particular moment she feels very grateful to her Aunt Rebbekah and her penchant for all things fashion and balls and formal wear, whenever she visits there’s at least one shopping trip, not to mention all the clothes she sends her no matter how many times she tells her-her room couldn’t possibly fit all of it.

She’s very grateful for it now because that means she has something to wear for the ball even if she only found out yesterday that she’d be attending. Her dress is a deep blue color, simple but elegant and reaching almost to the ground. She really wishes she could just wear her boots for this but that would be a little much, so instead she’s wearing low silver heels that won’t bother he too quickly if she has to keep running around later. She keeps her make-up simple as well and her hair loose.

When she gets out of the bathroom Josie is already in the room, she seems to be touching up her makeup even if it looks like she went the same route as Hope and kept it simple. Josie’s dress is also simple with a high neck but a little shorter, just passing her knees and in a very pretty shade of green.
