Weeks flew by, and my assignment felt like it was going well. Being a foster mother for Siobhan was easy, especially since I didn't have to do a thing to convert the girl towards the path of righteousness. The rumors about her were true. Despite having awful parents, Siobhan was by far the kindest human I've ever met. She had a great sense of optimism and always seemed willing to help out. She's a good kid, and I hope she stays this good as she grows up.
Anyway, after weeks of this, I received a message from Gabriel. A message saying that I was summoned for a follow-up meeting with him and the Big Man. I didn't really know what all of it was about, I don't think I've done anything wrong during my assignment, but I wasn't one to question the Lord's word. If I was to be summoned for a meeting, then I would have to oblige to do it. Even if it did seem unorthodox.
So, the afternoon of my meeting day, I quickly made sure I was ready and presentable for my meeting. Siobhan had just gotten home from school, and I was skeptical to leave her home alone. Siobhan was old enough to take care of herself and I trusted her to be home alone, but didn't know how long I'd be gone. I didn't want the girl to worry about me.
"Alright, I've got an important meeting with my boss about my assignment." I said as I made my way to the library doors. "I'll be gone for a few hours or so. Now, what are-"
"Don't worry. I've made some plans with my school friends." Siobhan assured me as she worked on her homework. "I hope that's alright."
"Of course." I told her before giving her a quick hug goodbye. "I'll see you in a bit."
"Fly safely!" she told me.
I nodded at Siobhan before leaving the library, knowing that I trusted her decision. I looked around to make sure that no one was around, and when I was totally alone, I transformed into my angelic form and flew straight up towards Heaven. A million thoughts popped into my mind as I flew around, mainly what this whole meeting was about. I was wondering if I would finally be granted my Divine Gift, but that couldn't have been possible. I've only been taking care of Siobhan for a few weeks now, and angels are given their gifts after months of being on their first assignment.
So, the thought of the meaning behind this meeting was still puzzling in my mind. And things only made me more curious when I finally reached Heaven and saw three figures talking amongst themselves as they flew by the Pearly Gates. Two of them were Henrietta and Evangeline while the third was Claudine. The latter of the trio took notice of my arrival and immediately flew over to open the gates to let me in.
"Bernadette!" Claudine greeted when I flew in.
"Oh, my friend!" I greeted her with a welcoming hug. "I missed you."
"Missed you, too!" Claudine said when we broke off our hug.
"Good to see you again!" Henrietta told me. "What brings you back? You finished your assignment already?"
"I'm just here for a follow-up meeting with the Big Man." I said. "Gabriel requested that I report to them both on my assignment."
"Strange." Henrietta thought out loud. "I never had to do follow-up meetings for my assingments."
"Neither did I." Claudine added.
"Must be to make sure she's doing her job right." Evangeline shrugged jokingly.
Henrietta glared at our sister. "Evie, behave yourself."
"What?" she asked in defense. "I'm just saying that for someone who got into so much trouble like her, I'd want to make sure you're doing your job instead of playing with demons."
I wanted to correct her and say that the Big Man and Gabriel couldn't possibly do such a thing. After all, that was years ago, and they've surely let those incidents live in the past by now. But, before I got the chance to speak, the four of us heard a horn playing. We all turned around to see Arven flying towards us. The messenger boy must've been sent to bring me to my meeting once I had been summoned.
