Chapter 9
THIRD POV
"Parlare," Federico told in his deep baritone.
Alessandro was hesitant... He was still very distressed about what happened earlier. But he trusted his uncle.
Federico and him were very close. His younger uncle was not an overly emotional person. But he never failed to make him feel cherished. Almost in a fatherly manner; he was stern but loving...
Daniele, on the other hand, kept his interaction with him to a minimum. And when he spoke to him, he remained factual, solely focused on teaching him how to rule the world.
He believed that diving into the realm of emotions was a waste of time and a sign of weakness. He abhorred both with passion.
The little boy often felt that there was an invisible barrier between them. He always felt tensed in his older uncle's presence. But at the same time, he craved his acknowledgement.
He had racked his little brain so many times, wondering if Daniele actually disliked him.
Alessandro was very perceptive and intelligent beyond his age. He had to mature faster because he was surrounded by people who wouldn't hesitate to take advantage of his childish naivety.
His uncles had taught him that all flatterers live at the expense of those who listen to them.
Despite his young age, he knew that sometimes the difference between friends and foes is thinner than paper. The ability to see past the fake smiles and deceitful words was a matter of survival.
He had often been the target of Daniele's and Federico's numerous mistresses, who were ready to use everything trick in the book to win the coveted title of "Mrs. Esposito " Even if it meant manipulating the feelings of a 5 years old child.
His distrust of people was fueled y his uncles' teachings and the unfortunate experiences he had made so far.
There were only four people he trusted: His uncles, Tommaso, and Antonella.
And now his Angel. She exuded so much love and warmth. His little soul yearned her attention and was attracted to her like a moth to a flame. They had just met, but he couldn't bear the thought of losing her.
He opened up to his uncle and told him everything.
Federico listened attentively while his nephew bared his soul. And he got angrier by the minute.
His little vixen had fire in her; he had to give her credit for her bold ingenuity. He was looking forward to seeing her usual sassy and loud self at a loss for words once she realized that her plan was crumbling like a house of card.
He had lots of surprises in store for her.
Cassie's POV
After storming out of the dining room and dragging me along like a rag doll, Enzo brought me to a study on the first floor. I have tried to protest thrice, but every time I asked him to slow down, he just glowered at me before resuming his frantic walk through the corridors of the manor.
His grip was so tight that at some point, I thought that my hand would fall off. It will almost certainly leave a bruise.
When we entered the room, I was panting loudly and needed a few seconds to catch my breath.
His seemingly relaxed posture can not fool me. I know that he is watching my every move with utmost focus.
His veiny left arm bent at the elbow is resting on the armchair. His slightly tilted head is resting in his left hand, and the index and middle fingers pressed against his left temple while his thumb supports his chin. His right hand is lazily hanging off the chair. He looks like a despotic emperor sitting upon his golden throne. Ready to sentence me to the most cruel punishment...
