JENNIE
“I think this one looks cute.” Jennie bites her lip as Lisa leans closer to her and looks over her shoulder to see a bunny rabbit plushie on the screen. She can feel the Thai’s breathing against her neck. “The one you picked earlier is a little too much, for a one year old though, don’t you think?”
She’s helping Lisa pick a ‘year-long-amount-that-I-missed-on-her-life’ gift for their goddaughter, Hayul. Jennie has been babysitting for Jisoo and Chaeyoung from time to time, ever since they had their daughter a year ago. So, when she got the phone call from Jisoo yesterday, asking if she can watch the baby that weekend, Jennie didn’t think twice about it and said yes. It’s the couple’s anniversary, and they both deserved at least a night out for themselves. Plus, she loves babysitting Hayul. What she didn’t expect was that her high school ex-girlfriend was there, in her tall, gorgeous, fresh from Europe-glory. It has been years since she last saw Lisa. The Thai just got back in the country and been staying at her best friend Chaeyoung’s house for a couple of days to catch up.
“Does it come in yellow?” the Thai asks, ignoring another one of Jennie’s comments about the price and the ridiculousness of a human-sized plush rabbit toy for a baby.
“It does, but I don’t think the color was the problem,” she laughs. “Jisoo and Chaeng will probably kill you, it will take all the room’s space.”
Lisa hums. “Hayul’s room is big. I think that size will be perfect.”
Jennie’s hand pauses before clicking the add-to-cart button when she swears, she can feel the taller woman’s breath on her neck.
“Can you please make sure you get the small bunnies that goes with it, too.”
She swallows and nods, unsure of what else to do. No. That’s a lie. What she really wants to do is turn her head and brush her lips against Lisa’s fuller ones, but that’s wrong on so many levels. She’s her high school ex-girlfriend whom she hasn’t seen in years. They were just babysitting for their best friends’ daughter. She should just forget about this sizzling chemistry and focus on taking care of Hayul. Right? When she finally gets up the nerve to turn her head to look at Lisa; dark doe eyes lock with hers. Jennie’s mouth opens a little and she can’t stop herself from licking her lips. Her ex-girlfriend stares at her for a moment as if she didn’t realize Jennie was so close. The tension is so thick she can almost taste it, but all she does is stare as Lisa leans down and she closes her eyes.
The baby monitor screeches to life and a cry fills the room. The Korean jerks back as her eyes flies open and she jumps up from the couch.“I’ll get it.” They both get up, and she nearly knocks Lisa over as her body collides against the other woman.
“No, I’ll get her. Please, finish the order,” Lisa tells her as the Thai pulls out her purse and places a credit card next to the computer. Lisa stares at her for a moment before finally turns to leave.
Jennie plops back down on the couch in shock. She can’t believe what almost happened. She groans and closes her eyes. She needs to get it together because that can’t happen again.
She picks up the credit card and stares at the black plastic. Jesus, doesn’t someone have to be super rich to have one of these things? Lisa might have done really well with her career in project management.
She clicked the rest of the items she added to the cart and try not to look at the total as she checks out.“Look at my sweet baby girl,” she hears coming from the baby monitor. “Did you have a good nap sweetheart?”
Her heart melts listening to Lisa talk to the baby. Lisa also took her breath when she saw her earlier in the morning, both of them surprised. Lisa was sipping tea in just a tank top and boxer shorts with cat prints on them, that she never imagined ever be sexy yet the Thai absolutely looks ravishing, but she needs not to tell anyone that.
