Tigerpaw playfully batted his denmate, Bluepaw, on her face.
"Oi!" She cried, sending a paw into his face.
Tigerpaw shook before pouncing onto her.
"Go away!" She squealed.
He was quickly thrown off.
"Never!" Tigerpaw replied defiantly.
The two exchanged amused purrs until a voice sounded from the apprentice's den.
"Be quiet!" Barkpaw's grouchy yowl came from inside.
This made them purr louder as they rolled around in a heap of fur.
"Be quiet!" Barkpaw snapped racing out of the den, "I want to sleep!"
He swiped at Bluepaw with unsheathed claws, barely missing her skin. In return, Tigerpaw watched as she bit down on his ear. Stonefur raced over and pulled her off.
"Do not harm clanmates!" He shouted at Bluepaw.
Tigerpaw saw her open her mouth to protest, but she quickly shut it and stormed away. She raced past Beewhisker on guard and disappeared through the bushes. Tigerpaw went to chase after her, but Stonefur put his paw infront of him.
"She'll be fine, she just needs space," he assured.
Tigerpaw didn't like the idea of her being alone in the woods, but trusted Stonefur's judgement. The sun was beginning to set yet Bluepaw hadn't returned. Tigerpaw was growing anxious and itched to find her. He padded towards Stonefur and pleaded to let him find her. He eventually let Tigerpaw go. He bolted out of camp and found him padding through the now dark forest. He sniffed the air and found her scent trail. It was growing faint but was noticeable enough. Tigerpaw followed it, trying to ignore his rumbling belly as prey scattered around him.
Finally, Tigerpaw found her. Bluepaw sat with her back facing him, a beam of light breaking through the blanket of trees and onto her. Next to her sat two mice and the bones of another. Atleast she didn't starve herself. The rustle of Tigerpaw's paw touching a crisp leaf notified Bluepaw that he was their. She spun around with an agitated look.
"I'm glad I've found you," Tigerpaw sighed.
He strode over to her and wrapped his tail around her. She swiftly flicked it away with hers and bashed him with her paw. The blow was hard and stung Tigerpaw's cheek. He stepped back, shocked.
Stonefur's voice sounded from behind them, "Bluepaw!"
The grey tom rushed over and screamed at her. Bluepaw sank into herself.
"Don't get so made at her! She just got a bit angry!" Tigerpaw tried to defend her.
"It is the second time today that she has attacked a clanmate!" Stonefur replied, "she has to be punished."
Tigerpaw saw a look of disappointment in his mentor's eyes.
"Come on you two," Stonefur murmured, "lets get back to camp, and bring those great catches with you!"Tigerpaw watched as Bluepaw dragged a heap of moss into the elders den. He wanted to help her, but Stonefur had said that, as it was a punishment, he couldn't. Tigerpaw felt guilty as Bluepaw gave him glaces, that turned from anger to sadness. It was now night and to distract himself from his guilt, he decided to sleep. He padded over to his nest and flopped down into it. However, he couldn't manage to sleep. He wanted to see Bluepaw.
After what seemed like moons later, Bluepaw finally came into the apprentice's den. She fell into her nest next to Tigerpaw, sending a clump of moss into his face.
"Ugh.. Flowershine kept me there forev-ver talking about how Nightclaw should be the one cleaning her nest," she complained, "I mean, she isn't wrong. Why can't he and Stonefur clean their own mother's nest?"
Bluepaw clawed at her moss before curling up and falling asleep. Tigerpaw managed to do so too, after alot of fidgeting.Tigerpaw opened his eyes to see a lush forest open infront of him. He raced through it, clawing at prey effortlessly. Bluepaw appeared at his side. She was bigger and had a scratch on her muzzle. They trotted into camp, pressing against eachother. A scream came from Bluepaw and Tigerpaw's sight melted into red. A small blob of blue, the same as Bluepaw's pelt, came into view, before vanishing.
Tigerpaw blinked his eyes open. He squinted as the bright light of a new morning came into view. He stretched and yawned, climbing out of his nest. Stonefur poked his head into the den and signalled to Tigerpaw to come out. He obediently trotted out and took place infront of his mentor. Stonefur informed him that they would be hunting today, to prepare for the harsh cold that would soon come. They strode out of camp and headed deep into the forest.
A scrawny rabbit hopped out of a bush. Tigerpaw stalked it, carefully putting each paw down. One wrong move could send this prey running. He had almost gotten close enough to it when a twig snapped beneath his paws. The rabbit's ears pricked and it darted away. Tigerpaw gave chase, refusing to let this prey go. The rabbit had almost gotten away when he leapt and landed on it, snapping its back. He skidded to a halt right infront of Lightningclan's border. A brown she-cat in a passing patrol gave him a stern look and he backed away with his kill sheepishly.
"That was great!" Stonefur's voice made Tigerpaw jump.
They brought the rabbit to where they had made a small pile of mice and shrews and headed back to camp.
