HEART’S POV
The gala was in full swing, and I was already regretting my decision to come. The music was too loud, the lights were too bright, and the crowd was filled with people I didn’t want to talk to. I glanced at my siblings, who were mingling effortlessly, while I felt like I was stuck in a never-ending social nightmare.
“Kuya, could please tell mom and dad I want to uwi na” I pleaded with Ashton, my eldest brother, as we stood near the refreshments table. “I need to finish my assignment, tapos I need to prepare the papers for school activities para sa foundation day. Plus, the volleyball girls’ excuse letter, hindi ko pa yun na-finish!”
Kuya Ashton looked at me, a teasing smirk appears on his face. “Ano ba, tigilan mo ka-conyohan mo. It’s just one night! Enjoy mo na lang ‘to.”
“Easier said than done,” I replied, rolling my eyes. “You know I can’t concentrate with all this ingay.”
“Come on, Heart! Just a few more hours. At least let me finish my drink first,” Saint chimed in, sipping on his soda.
I sighed, knowing my protests were falling on deaf ears. “Fine, but I’m seriously uuwi na talaga later".
Just then, I spotted Tita Elisse Acosta, my mom’s best friend, making her way towards us with her children. I barely had time to prepare myself before she greeted us with her signature warmth.
“Hello, everyone! It’s so great to see you!” she exclaimed, her smile brightening the room. “I brought my children along. I know you are all friends with each other but !”
I forced a smile, feeling the inevitable awkwardness creeping in.Tita Elisse gestured for her Children to introduce themselves.
“Mulan Lianna Alcantara the Eldest,” Mulan introduced herself, her confidence shining through as she flashed us a charming smile.
“Ryndell Tristan Alcantara Second,” Ryndell said, his voice smooth, exuding that irritating charm of his. He shot me a quick look, that infamous smirk dancing on his lips.
“Jiro Thaddeus Alcantara, third” Jiro added, giving us a friendly nod.
“Shine Marielle Alcantara Youngest,” Shine finished, twirling a strand of her hair playfully.
“Mulan your Here!” Alexis exclaimed, leaning in with excitement. “I miss going out with you”
“Yeah, i am back bestie,” Mulan said, grinning.
“Malia Alexandra Leigh Heart Fernandez,” I nervously spoke up, trying to regain some semblance of control over the conversation. “the youngest”.
Ryndell chuckled lightly. “Your name sounds like a princess. It suits you very well.”
Ugh, why does he have to be so insufferable?
Kuya Ashton elbowed me playfully, clearly enjoying my discomfort. “So, Heart, are you going to stick around or run away to finish your homework?”
“I'll gawa it talaga” I shot back, shooting a glare in Ryndell's direction. “Especially if kailangan ko mag listen to you.”
“Come on, it’s just a little fun. You need to lighten up,” he said, leaning in slightly. “Besides, I might be able to help with your schoolwork if you need it.”
“Help? From you?” I replied, incredulous. “tangina i don't need your help you weirdo.”
“Suit yourself,” Ryndell said, shrugging. “But if you change your mind, I’m here.”
As tita,Elisse and the others began chatting, I felt a tug of annoyance. Why did he have to be here, acting all charming and confident? I wanted to enjoy the night, but every time I glanced his way, I felt a mix of irritation and intrigue.
