Backstory of BatClan:
When DarkTail took over ShadowClan, BatWhisker and AshPine fled, and created their own clan. BatWhisker became BatStar, and started inviting lost and orphaned kits to join his clan, along with a few other cats.
JayThorn's death:
Basically, he found his mother who gave him to an evil rouge that had been causing trouble for BatClan for a while. The rouge tortured then killed him, but BatClan was able to revive him by sneaking his body to the MoonPool, where StarClan revived him.
—————————————————————
JayThorn gazed up at BatStar. The clan leader had called a meeting, which was strange. DeadPaw had just became an apprentice, and there were no kits in the nursery to become apprentices.
BatClan's leader sat on the High Stump gazing at his clan mates gathered before him. "I have called this meeting because our current deputy, AshPine, has become too old to take the job. AshPine, is it your wish to give up the name of deputy and go join the elders?"
"It is." AshPine spoke up from besides JayThorn.
"Your Clan honors you and all the service you have given to us. I call upon StarClan to give you many moons of rest." BatStar announced. "Now that that is official, we need a new deputy. Tonight at moonhigh I will announce who will be our new deputy. Meeting dismissed." BatStar finished, hopping down from the HighStump and stalking away.
The cats quickly dispersed, conversing about who it might be. JayThorn was pretty sure he knew who it was. Or at least who it wasn't. It was probably DawnGrass. He had been here the longest, and was extremely protective. Everyone else knew that too. It was likely going to be DawnGrass.
JayThorn huffed and quickly padded out of camp. It was around sunhigh, so he should have plenty of time to clear his head by hunting.
——————————————————————
It was moonhigh now, and BatClan was gathered beneath the HighStump yet again. DawnGrass was sitting next to him, practically vibrating from excitement. JayThorn rolled his eyes at his clan mate. He couldn't wait for the ceremony to be over so he could go back to avoiding his boisterous family.
"We have gathered here tonight to appoint a new deputy." BatStar announced as if they were clueless kits. BatStar's intense blue eyes flitted across the clan, then gazed at the stars. "I say these words before StarClan, so that the spirits of our warrior ancestors may hear and approve of my choice. The new deputy of BatClan is JayThorn."
Immediately, every cat in the clan stiffened, then turned to stare at JayThorn. JayThorn's pelt spiked up under the questioning stares of his clan.
He slowly looked up at BatStar before voicing what that whole clan was thinking. "What?!"
"You are now my deputy." BatStar said as if explained everything.
"But how can he be trusted to keep us alive! He can't even keep himself alive!" DawnGrass yowled, and the rest of the clan murmured in agreement. "He's to reckless and stubborn!"
"He didn't die because he was reckless or stubborn." BatStar growled. "The reason he died was because he loved somebody who didn't love him back. It wasn't his fault. He died because he was loyal, and because he cared. It just took me too long to realize that. It has taken us all too long to realize. He actually deserves the title of deputy."
JayThorn sat there, shellshocked. He had thought BatStar had hated him. He was BatStar's greatest failure. He had tried to murder TimberDusk— he hadn't been in control at the time, but still. Half of the clan couldn't even look him in the eye without feeling guilty, scared, or hateful. So why had BatStar chosen him?
"Clan dismissed. And JayThorn, talk to me in the morning." BatStar called, leaping from the HighStump and padding across the clearing, acting as if he hadn't just done that.
'StarClan help me.' JayThorn prayed silently. This was going to be hard.
Smol cliffhanger! I will likely make a pt 2, but I have a large writer's block right now, so I need more ideas! I hope you all enjoyed this chapter!
