A couple of hours had passed. Jungkook had a movie playing quietly on the screen while he rested, the baby fast asleep in his arms. When he glanced to the side, he noticed the man next to him had also dozed off—head tilted back, mouth slightly parted, finally at peace. Poor guy must've spent the whole day trying to calm the baby.A few minutes later, a flight attendant approached with a tray of meals, leaning toward Jungkook.
"Would you like something to eat?"
He nodded quickly—he hadn't realized how hungry he was until now.
"Mr. Kim?" another attendant asked, gently nudging the man beside him awake.
"Huh—what?" Taehyung blinked rapidly, startled.
"The food is here," she said politely.
"I'm not hungry," he muttered, waving a dismissive hand and leaning back again.
"I think you should eat something," Jungkook interjected. "You'll need energy to take care of him after we land." He looked at the attendant. "Can you bring the same for him, please?"
Taehyung turned to glance at him, then at the baby curled up in Jungkook's arms. It was as if the weight of reality hit him again—Yun-hee was his responsibility now.
"I can take him," he offered, holding out his arms.
"It's okay," Jungkook said softly. "You can rest for now. I've got him."
There was a brief pause before Jungkook added, "Do you know how to change his diaper? I can teach you if you want."
"No—I did it once before we got on the plane. Uh... YouTube helped," Taehyung admitted, scratching his neck sheepishly.
They both ate in silence for a while. Taehyung glanced at the movie playing on Jungkook's screen before speaking.
"You seem good at it," he said, wiping his mouth with a napkin and then squeezing some hand sanitizer onto his palms again.
"Got three brothers back at home," Jungkook replied with a casual shrug, slurping up another mouthful of noodles. "I'm pretty used to it."
"Ah, I see. What do you do for a living?" Taehyung asked.
Jungkook set his chopsticks down to wipe his mouth. "I'm an intern at an editorial magazine," he answered.
For a moment, Taehyung looked mildly surprised. His eyes flicked to Jungkook's baggy clothes, then briefly to the tattoos peeking out from beneath the younger's sleeve.
"You're wondering how I ended up in business class while being an intern, huh?" Jungkook caught him in the act with a teasing smirk.
Taehyung quickly straightened in his seat, clearly trying not to seem rude.
"It's a long story," Jungkook continued, "but I'm only traveling on behalf of my editor-in-chief. He had a last-minute health check, and I got sent to cover a conference in New York."
"So you've got no family in New York either? Where are you staying?" Taehyung asked.
"I don't know yet. The details are probably in an email somewhere—I'll check after I land," Jungkook said, finishing his rice bowl and sipping the last of his juice. Then he turned to the older man. "So why are you flying to a whole new city with a baby in your arms?"
Taehyung adjusted his tie, looking a bit weary. His coat was crumpled on the seat beside him, and now he sat more casually in just his dress shirt with the sleeves rolled up.
"Had no one back home to leave him with," he said simply.
"Not even your parents?" Jungkook asked, brows lifting slightly.
