Aubrey needed to get away.
Her twin brother was gone, and her older brother had gone to live with Lisa. He'd offered to let her join, but she'd turned down the offer.
She wished she had accepted.
As she drove along a dark road, she saw something run past.
She stopped the car and got out. As she went to investigate, a man walked up to her. "Get back in your car."
Aubrey frowned. "What? Why? Someone could be in trouble."
"You're about to be in a lot more trouble if you don't get out of here. Look, I don't want an innocent person getting hurt. Go!" He pushed her towards her car.
She walked backwards, staring at the man with a frown and stopped. "Hey! Who are you to tell me what to do?"
"Someone trying to look out for you."
Aubrey pursed her lips. "I'm a big girl. I can take care of myself."
Blue Eyes continued staring at her. "Clearly. But seriously; get out of here." He paused and added, "Please."
She studied his expression and nodded, seeing the seriousness. "Okay. Hey, take care of yourself, okay?"
He nodded. "You too."
As Aubrey walked back to her car, she said softly, "Who are you and what is going on in this town?"
Something wasn't sitting right with her, and it was only a matter of time before she found out.
