Chapter 11
Althea and I follow Perrie as she leads Harry and Liam through the corridor, down the stairs and into the reception, the place where all the reaper-business started. Something tells me that even this time, there isn't much good news.
Two men dressed in dark suits are seated in the couch placed in front of the large desk. They stand up when they see Perrie. They clearly are from the police. One is short and the taller one with glasses, is a bit chubby. Both have intent looks on their faces.
"Looks like reapers aren't the only things in all of creation trying to solve your death - sorry, coma," Althea says, eyeing the two of them carefully.
"Would you just keep quiet for just a moment," I plead. If they're here to tell us about my accident, that would help me a lot.
"Okay," she says. "Sorry."
"Good afternoon," the short one says as he extends his arm towards Liam. "I'm Agent Warren and this is my partner, Agent Bart."
An exchange of handshakes takes place.
"We're here about the accident of Mr. Malik," the other one says. "After days of searching, we have finally found something that we could work with. I am not sure whether it's supposed to be good or bad."
"Didn't they find something the previous whole week?" I whisper to Althea.
"Not that I know of," she replies.
"So basically, you just watched me sleep the whole week," I imply.
"In a totally non-creepy sort of way," she adds. "I assure you."
I ignore Althea and look back at the agents.
"Please tell me you found the truck and its owner," Harry says. "A week is enough time to track down a truck."
They didn't find any leads this previous week. I haven't missed out on much. Considering that I've been killed by something powerful, a week is a relatively short time to find any evidence.
"We're coming to that," Bart states. He turns on the black tablet that he's been carrying. "Through the CCTV footage of the accident, we did manage to find out the number plate. However, as you know, we couldn't find a truck with that number."
"You're stating the known facts agent," Liam says. "Get to the point. We need to know more."
Bart nods. Not removing his eyes from the screen, he says, "We also managed to find this video taken by a teenager from a cafe a mile away from the place of the accident. We found something rather...strange I would say. Thought you should see it yourself."
He removes his hand from the screen and turning the screen towards us, he plays the video. All of us crowd around his tab. It was difficult for Althea and I to get a look, but after some adjusting I manage to find a space through which I can see the video clearly.
For the first time since my new 'life' began, I feel nervous. Whatever that video contains is important; one can judge by the look on the agents' face. It may give provide Althea with some information so that she can try and find my killer.
The footage starts revealing a blond girl drinking coffee. She looks about eighteen or nineteen. Someone is shooting the video from across the table where the girl is sitting. There's a window next to their table.
"Get that phone off my face Drake!" she yells. Her hand darts towards the screen and then the phone, supposedly, falls off the boy's hand on the table. It is followed by a boy laughing.
"Geez, calm down." The boy picks the phone up, as his friend continues to laugh. This is followed by another ten seconds of the girl yelling and, presumably, the boy's friend taunting her. Teenagers.
