Kiara rushed in her heels to her office. She woke up late since she was up all night laughing on tiktok. That app is a serious addiction
She had to meet with her client today on a case that was wasting her time. Her client was 20 yr old Alura Mathew's. Alura is in for robbery when her baby dad was obviously the one who did it. Kiara found it crazy how these men would have women wrapped around their finger
Kiara let out a sigh before gathering her things that she needed and leaving the office. Alura was in state custody and will stay there for 3+ years on account of robbery if she didn't beat the case.
"took you long enough" Alura said walking in and sitting across the table
"yea sorry thats my bad"
"look if your not trynna lower my sentence i could really get another lawyer because you ain't doin shit for me. yall lawyers be a waste of damn time"
Kiara was actually one of the best lawyers. Everybody recommended or wanted to Kiara to represent them in court. Alura was actually lucky she got the time of day
"well how you want me do shit for you on a crime you didn't commit. You know yo cracked out baby dad did that dumb shit and you taken the fall. now speak to me out the side of your neck again and i'll gladly give you another lawyer."
This is how Kiara was the best lawyer. She didn't have to use cuss words she just wanted to in that moment but she knew how to get people to not have back talk. She loved to go back n forth knowing she'd win.
Alura sat back in her seat letting Kiara explain her options
"now i could set a deal that you plead guilty and u do 6 months in and a year on probation plus community service. if you plead not guilty you gon get the 3 years and maybe more"
"well i'll plead guilty since that's the better option"
"yea i knew you'd go for that" She said closing the the folder
"thank you" Alura said with a guilty look. she must've felt bad for snapping on her earlier
"you good. just pick better men also" Kiara said standing up leaving the visitation area
Kiara got in her car which was a tesla. she felt like this was a waste of money since she only had it for a year and the battery keeps dying quickly.
She got out the car after pulling up to her main work area where other lawyers worked but of course she had her own office
Walking to her office she grabbed a cranberry juice from out the vending machine seeing her colleague lani.
"omg girl you look so agitated right now" Kiara spoke
"yes i am my clients mother is so clingy. won't let me talk to my actual client without her putting her two cents"
"oh girl they be the worst ima pray for you"
"ima need it for real"
Kiara sat in her office looking over cases like she always did before her phone dinged
she saw it was from her brother so she opened the message
wanna grab lunch?
She checked the time seeing the her lunch break was actually in 30 minutes.
She replied sure and they agreed to meet at this brunch spot downtown. This would be them seeing each other after 5 months. she was excited that they could finally catch up
"hey" Kiara said creeping up on him from behind
"hey sis" he said turning around standing up before they embraced each other in a hug
"how have you been?" he asked as they both sat down
"ive been good just really busy with work. what about about you?"
"good good ive just missed my sister. we rarely ever talk if it's not over text" he said as Kiara responded with a tight smile
"hi i'm quin and i'll be serving you today can we start with drinks" she said with her notepad
"yes i would like a sprite and she would like.. a lemonade" Kiara said adding on to Lee's sentence
"Okay i'll be right back then we can jump into the food" she said before walking away
"when was the last time you've visited mom?" Lee asked
a guilt waved over Kiara because she hasn't visited her moms grave in a while. she has just been so slumped and busy that she hasn't had the time
"in a lil while. i've been planning to but something is just always coming up"
"yea don't weight it on yourself. I try to visit at least once a month but sometimes things come up"
The waitress came back with drinks and both Lee and kiara ordered shrimp n grits. Their favorite
"okay i really bought you here because i had some news" Lee said as they were halfway through their food
Kiara put her spoon down focusing her attention on Lee
"i'm getting married"
Kiara was just silent before "oh? to who?" she said before taking a sip from her lemonade
"to a wonderful women. her name is Zuri and i've been wanting you to meet her but like you said everything just been so busy. She's been wanting to meet you aswell"
"when is the wedding?" Kiara really didn't know how to respond. she was happy for her brother but she never even met the lady her brother proposed to
"this summer coming up"
"well if your happy then i'm happy. congratulations"
"Thank you. it means a lot coming from you"
