Chapter 1

Chapter 1: implied Ruoye

Xie Lian was on his computer, typing up another resume for another job he applied to while eating a mantou.

Ding! The sound of his notification rang out loud.

He picked up his phone, clicked on the notification, and read through the reply of the company he applied for.

Rejected was the only word he read before sighing and shutting off his phone. He already knew he was going to be rejected, and he was used to being rejected from jobs. He thought maybe it was because of his sparse introduction, and decided to rewrite his introduction.

My name is Xie Lian, from Xianle, living in the Puqi district.

He sighed and leaned back in his chair, not knowing what to do at this point. He applied for so many jobs, and still couldn't get hired.

His thoughts were interrupted when he leaned a little bit too far back and fell backwards, hitting his head on the wooden floor.

The whole house shook.

“Ugh..” He groaned when he got up, feeling like his head split in two. He placed his palm where he fell, and felt the cracks he made.

Normally, if somebody fell back, they would just get hurt and move on. But no, the whole house shook when he fell.

This was because Xie Lian was unique, all the Xianle men were.

The Xianle men inherited a familial power, bestowed by their ancestors—a gift enabling them to possess superhuman strength.

But, there was a catch.

Xie Lian found out the catch when he researched that he had an ancestor who used his strength to beat up rich people for money. And it wasn't even his last resort!

Due to greediness, the ancestor woke up with no strength, and got beaten up by the rich people he stole from.

He also learnt that should a Xianle man use his powers for greediness or evil, not only he is deprived of his power, but is also cursed!

It could be disease, a misfortune in business, losing a limb, leprosy, anything.

The Xianle men couldn't use their powers for evil.

Back when he was living in Xianle, to be wealthy, his father used his strength to become a world-class weightlifter.

He didn't get any disease, nor devoid of his powers, so it seemed like he wouldn't be affected, considering he made people from around the globe visit China for him, and brought pride to his country.

Due to the pride he gained, he grew arrogant and began belittling others. He used his strength to intimidate, ensuring a flawless image for himself and his family by preventing any negative comments or rumors from spreading.

Unfortunately, someone recorded him making the threats, and broadcasted it to the local news, causing a huge scandal.

His father and mother were hated on and were attacked with hate comments and gossip. And even Xie Lian as a child was even rumored to grow up to be as arrogant as his father too!

Soon they moved to a different place and started anew. But it only had been a couple of years before the press found out where they lived and ambushed their home, forcing them to make claims and talk for the camera.

Xie Lian was only seventeen when they couldn't take it anymore.

That event made Xie Lian realize the importance of not committing sins, so whenever he'd get a chance, no matter how small or big the favor was, he would help anyone.
