Noah watched as Cody paced back and forth in their shared dorm room, a look of deep concentration on his face. He knew something was bothering his friend, but he didn't dare interrupt him. The room was already tense enough without adding any fuel to the fire.
Suddenly, Cody stopped in his tracks and turned to face Noah. "I need to tell you something," he said, his voice quivering slightly. "I've been self-harming for a while now."
Noah's heart dropped into his stomach at the confession. He knew Cody had been acting strangely lately, but he never would have guessed something like this was going on. "Oh, Cody,"
Cody continued, "I don't know why I do it. It's just... a way to cope with everything that's going on in my head. But I promise I'm trying to stop."
That night, Noah lay awake in bed, staring up at the ceiling as he thought about what Cody had told him. He felt a mixture of emotions – anger, frustration, fear, and above all, love.
Noah suddenly sat up in bed, a realization dawning on him. He knew exactly what he had to do. Slipping out of bed quietly, he dressed himself in his pajama bottoms and shirt, and then tiptoed across the room to where Cody was sleeping.
Noah gently shook Cody awake, his voice barely above a whisper. "Cody, wake up," he said softly. "I need to talk to you about something important."
Cody's eyes fluttered open, still half-asleep. "What is it?" he mumbled.
Noah took a deep breath, mustering up all the courage he could find. "I... I need you to stop lying to me," he said softly. "About everything that's going on in your head. I know you're scared and confused, but we can get through this together."
Cody sat up slowly, his eyes widening in surprise. "You... you know?" he asked quietly.
Noah nodded slowly. "I've suspected for a while now," he admitted. "But I wanted to make sure before I said anything." He took another deep breath and continued, "Look, I know it's hard to talk about these things."
