Wake
Up
Mike.
Mike opened his eyes. He awakes surprised to be alive and... standing? His vision was a haze, and yet in front of him he saw Algo standing still. Algo collapsed to his knees. Mike cleared his eyes and finally he saw.
In front of him crouched Algo missing one arm and a chunk of his torso. Now with his vision clear, Mike's heart sank to a sickening pit in his stomach. All around them, the faces he saw awhile ago weeping were now faces screaming and legs running away from falling debris. The buildings of his university—the buildings he called home to his study—were now burnt and barely standing. Mike staggered in place, realizing the grass around them was now scorched black.
For exactly one minute and fifteen seconds, Mike lost control over his body. For that single minute, the spirit of Gojira was finally free.
Mike held his hands to his face, only to realize he now had a snout. Thick, rough, jagged, and his jaws lined with sharp teeth. Mike fell to his knees and felt warmth rising from his stomach, only this time no blue beam came out, but instead what remained of his breakfast this morning. A wave of fatigue washed over his battered body. He was so trapped in his own head he hadn't yet realized the rest of Algo's soldiers, six of the remaining metal men, were already encroaching him from all sides.
Outside of the university, unbeknownst to any soul stuck inside the campus, the streets were lined with first responders. Police, firefighters, medical personnel, all standing ready to help whoever—if any—make it out. Crowds of curious onlookers had collected around the barricades set up by the police.
On the opposite end of the main gate, where there were far fewer bystanders to see, three shadows hid under the shade of vine-covered trees.
"I think kaya ko 'to sirain," one of them muttered, closely examining the shimmering dome. Her long blonde hair was kept neat in a braid, a couple strands standing from being so near the dome.
"You think?" another groaned. He had on his body thick plates of armor, plates that looked too heavy to lug around unbothered. "We're betting it all on a maybe?"
"Kung wala kang ibang maisip, Tian, shut up ka nalang," the other retorted. Her auburn curls were more unkempt than the first girl's but it was kept tidy enough in a bun.
"No, no, I'm sure. Leo, fly Tian up and get ready to land. You'll know when it's game time," the blonde girl said as yellow sparks arced from the golden skin of her hands and neck.
"Yes, ma'am," the two replied. The auburn-haired girl grabbed the boy delicately with her sharp taloned feet and shot straight up to the apex of the dome.
The free strands of blonde hair on the girl's head stood more and more. "Here goes nothing," she said to herself as she summoned lightning from her mouth, colliding with the faint shimmering blue of the dome.
Back inside the campus, Mike had finally realized the situation he was in. His body felt warm again, but he felt weak—weak enough that just holding himself upright was beginning to be too much. As the soldiers circled closer and closer to him, he found himself begging for something else to arrive, someone else to save these people... someone other than him.
In his begging, he heard an explosion in the air somewhere. He looked up to find the shimmer of the dome fade. Then, he felt the ground shake. Dirt rose in front of him as something landed with a thud. Something... hairy? Something human-sized, which put Mike a little bit at ease.
"Holy God," the hairy boy muttered, his eyes scanning the state of the boy on his knees. "It's... you."
Two others landed at either side of Mike. He looked to find the one on his right was red, warm and had wings from the hands, and the other on his left had gold shimmering scales and wings from the back.
"Game time," the blonde girl declared. The hairy boy turned his back to Mike and faced the circling soldiers and began pounding at his chest. "Leonor,"
Mike was busying his mind trying to piece all of this together. Hairy ape, fire bird, golden dragon... this is the Kaiju Core!
"Get him out of here!" Audrey ordered. Before Mike could even protest, Leonor already had him by the shoulders and zoomed far away and out of the campus. In the air, without really understanding what was happening to him, Mike decided it was time for him to rest. As he finally allowed his consciousness to slip, the wind whistled past his ears and delivered a familiar voice.
Well
Done.
