Gabriel
I am starting to see cracks in our relationship.
It has been two days since I woke up. I was permitted to leave the room only this morning after Mama Nami did some of her old-school black magic—praying to her Lord to give me a longer life. My arm is still in the sling pouch. It has gotten its senses back yet movement proves as difficult as before. I can't wear my clothes properly so I have to settle for throwing my suit over my shoulders while I walk shirtless around the mention. It isn't indecent for the maids as for the most part my body is covered by the dressing of the bullet wound.
Fabio has been eerily silent when he is alone with me. I had thought that the fight between him and Sofia was just for the dead assailants. But Fabio has taken my decision as mine having chosen Sofia over him. He is acting like a grumpy kid on the block who didn't get his favorite candy.
He is currently telling me all the reasons why the Capos want me to launch an attack on the Bratva empire without us having any proof of them being behind the attack. I have refused several times which is starting to piss them off.
Fabio seems to be taking their side too.
"Fucking do whatever you have to do," I snap finally as we walk towards my room. "I want them to shut up."
The constant string of complaints has been pathetic. I have hardly gotten a chance to talk to Sofia. She didn't come to visit me again after our last encounter. I am eager to see her now, eager to be with her in the same room. She is the one person who thinks just as I do. She will understand if no one else does.
"Whining is their business," Fabio scoffs in return, casually pulling his hands behind his back.
I stop, squarely facing him.
"This shouldn't be happening under your watch," I remind him, pressing a finger to his chest, which he regards with a rude twist of his lips.
His mouth tightens as he stares back. "I'm not your servant."
"No, you're my underboss. So, regardless of what your boss says, get them to shut up." I turn away, spotting another figure standing rigid in front of my bedroom suite. The sight of him instantly frays my nerve endings. He is the last person I wanted to see. "What are you doing here?"
Dario's eyes widen at my sudden appearance. I stomp towards him, covering the distance rapidly, and stare him down.
"Signorina Sofia is inside," he murmurs, his body taut under my disapproving glare.
"That's her bedroom—hers and mine," I remind him, my tone as fiery as I feel. "She's supposed to be inside."
He swallows nervously. "Mi dispiace, as her bodyguard, I thought I must stay wherever she is."
How dare he say that to my face? I grab his tight T-shirt in a fist, growling against his face. "Get out of my sight. If I ever see you laying one finger on her again, you'll be begging for mercy."
He blinks, taken aback by my outburst. I've never been this cold with him before. My initial pity for him brought him here, but his relentless obsession with following Sofia around has worn my patience thin. No bodyguard needs to be that close to her when she is in her bedroom.
Fabio places a hand over my shoulder, pulling me away from Dario.
"Gabriel, calm down," he suggests.
I shake his hand off my shoulder, my glare still fixed on Dario. "Get him out of here."
The sigh that leaves my brother is heavy. "Follow me, Dario. I need your opinion on a strategy."
"Si, Signore." Dario turns to him, nodding before saying to me, "Mi dispiace, capo."
