After what felt like the longest journey of my life the driver told us we only had 20 minutes to go. I let out a sigh of relief and turned to Bucky who had been out like a light for the majority of the time in the car. I shook my head and rolled my eyes, so much for keeping each other occupied. Those 20 minutes felt longer than the entire 4-hour drive, I felt myself getting more anxious and worked up as the minutes went on. "We're here, you two", I shifted in my seat and turned to my dead looking friend beside me, "Bucky we're here", he twitched his nose and flickered his eyes, struggling to see through the light of the sunset. "Already? That was fast", he sat up and stretched his legs, "are you kidding?" I grinned at him "I have never been so bored; we were supposed to keep each other company and you have slept the whole time". He laughed with tired eyes and shrugged "oops". We made our way out of the car, collecting our bags from the back, I stuck my foot out in front of Bucky and he tripped a little, just managing to keep himself up "don't be a child", he turned to me and laughed, "oops", I replied.
We approached the tall glass doors of the Avengers' tower, and a voice came over the padlock "who are you here to see and do you have an appointment?' me and Bucky turned to each other, exchanging confused faces. "hello, were here to see Ste- ", I was cut off by the doors opening and a familiar face, "Bucky, it's so great to see you", a tall, broad blonde stepped out of the doors and hugged Bucky. I shifted my hands, feeling slightly out of place already, he then turned to me "Molly! It's lovely to see you in person, I am Steve", he put his hand out towards me, offering me a handshake, his hands were huge, like some kind of god. I took his hand in mine and shook it "nice to meet you. For real this time", he smiled and took my bags "follow me". We followed him into the building, it was populated with agents and tech people, they were all rushing around, no time to stop and chat. I couldn't help being nosey, I wanted to know what everyone was doing, why were they so busy? What did they need to get done? We followed Steve all the way to a large, mirrored elevator, we all stepped inside and were taken to the top floor labelled STARK.
The whole time Steve and Bucky were talking, I was listening curiously but never had the urge to but in or ask any questions, there was too much to take in around me. I looked at myself in the mirror behind us, I fixated on the bruise around my throat, it was pretty much healed, but the dark yellowing handprint still caught my eye. I pulled my scarf a little tighter and turned away from myself. When the doors opened, we all headed into the corridor, "this is May, she will take you to your rooms, get freshened up and meet us in the conference room after". May smiled at us sincerely and led us to our rooms. I looked back towards the conference room Steve walked into, I heard a lot of voices in there, I knew we were going to have to meet all those people and that was the last thing I wanted to do today.
May stopped outside one of the doors, it was labelled 505, I looked at her and she handed me a key with the same numbed written on its tag. "Here you are honey, this is your suit, don't lose the key now", I smiled awkwardly and took the key, I opened the door and walked in, shutting it behind me. I dropped my bags on the floor not caring where they fell and backed myself against the wall. The room was nice but very plain, the walls were cream, the bedding was cream and pretty much everything else was also cream. It had a mini kitchen area, not much could be cooked in here though, maybe just some tea and toast? The bed was neatly tucked in and there were fresh towels folded at the end. There was a desk with draws but nothing on top other than a reading lamp, I walked over and looked out of the window, I was so high up, just in the clouds, the sunset was beautiful and pink. I walked towards the door next to my bed, there was an en-suit with a shower, toilet, and sink, also cream. I looked at myself in the mirror, still focusing on the bruise that seemed to last forever. I turned the light on and the shower and walked back to my bags to start unpacking. I grabbed the clothes I wanted to wear after and one of the soft towels from the bed. I washed my body and face and put on some light makeup to make myself feel a little more presentable.
Once I was finished getting ready, I turned off the lights and headed back down the corridor to see if Bucky was there. I let out a quiet sigh when I saw him, I didn't even want to go into that room, let alone by myself. He smiled cutely "you look", he paused and looked me up and down "Bucky" I smiled and punched his arm lightly "you always look beautiful molly, even when you're covered in blood or dirt", he smiled again, waiting for a harder punch this time "very funny, now where is Steve?" Bucky turned and pointed towards the room at the end of the hall, named 'conference room', "ah of course", we walked towards it and knocked. The talking inside practically stopped and I cringed, clearly quite visibly as Bucky turned towards me and frowned "sorry, I just hate this kind of thing", he smiled and whispered, "it's fine Mol".
