Zane was never big on love, his best friend and other people she knew had always fantasized about it. But not Zane. He tried to understand it, he tried to like people.. but he never found someone that just clicked. There had been a few crushes, but they were nothing more than a liking to someone's style or aesthetics. Once he and his friend had reached the age of 18, the age he'd been dreading, they got a mark. Of course, Aphmau and Aaron already had matching marks. Everyone knew that was coming. Zane expected not to have a mark at all, it took a while but, it appeared on his wrist. Two birds, a raven and a dove to be exact. It confused him, and Aphmau.
But recently, Zane has been more alone than anything. Aphmau and Aaron decided to move away, and Zane not having any friends in the area or anything decided to move on as well. The two tried to keep in touch but eventually, they drifted. His only friend was gone. There wasn't anything he could do about it either. He met a few people, they weren't really into his interests or anything but it was something. So he wasn't alone.
"Zane? Zane! Wake up. It's your day to do chores." Grumbled a female voice, The raven-haired boy rubbed his eyes irritated. "I'm up.." He finally said pushing himself off his loft bed. He hit the floor with a thud, losing his balance and almost falling over. Rolling his eyes he walked out of his room, guessing from the sky it had to be a little later than noon. Once he was done cleaning and picking up after his roommates he retreated to his room.
Zane often got lost scrolling through social media, especially TikTok. He scrolled for hours and hours until someone caught his eye. He had fluffy white hair and bright green eyes. His smile was adorable, but you wouldn't catch Zane ever admitting that. He was making a video with what Zane assumed to be his friend, but that's when he saw it. The white-haired boy lifted his arm and his wrist revealed a mark. His mark. Zane rushed to try and open the comments but everything happened so fast and with his clumsy hands he had refreshed the video unknownly. Once he realized it, he felt his heart stop. "No, no, no." He said aloud to himself, he tried to not let it get to him but he couldn't help but feel defeated.
He had to talk to Aphmau.
Without wasting any more time, he dialed her number. It rang for a few moments, the moments feeling like forever. But eventually, she picked up, she had a cheery tone as usual and sounded happy at the sudden call. "Zuzu? Zuzu!!! It's been forever, how are you? Oh my god, we have to meet up some time I missed you!" She said with building up excitement. "No- I mean. Yes! We do but, but..." Zane trailed off trying to gather his thoughts. "Is everything alright?" Aphmau asked with a worried tone. "NO! Maybe? I.. I was scrolling on Tiktok-" He started. "As one does!" She interrupted with a giggle. She always loved to tease him. "Aph! This is important! I was scrolling and.. and..... He had my mark.." Zane breathed, clutching the phone as he spoke. "What? Your mark? WHO?" Aphmau squealed. "I- I don't know... I accidentally refreshed the page... It's gone forever! I'm such an idiot, Aph. I don't know what to do-" Zane felt himself choke on his words, tears forming in his eyes as even more realization had set in.
"It's okay, it's okay! Calm down. What did he look like? God, this is so crazy! You found your soulmate!" Aphmau said. Anyone could tell she was grinning by the way she spoke. Zane went on to explain his appearance, the way he spoke, and his eyes. His smile. Zane closed his eyes, trying his best to see him in his head. "Wait... He sounds familiar. Did you catch his name?" Aphmau asked curiously. "No... I barely got to read the description!" Zane exclaimed in annoyance. "Umm, I know a guy, named Travis. He fits your description, I just haven't been in contact with.. well, Anyone in so long." She explained. Zane nodded, a sigh escaping him. "Try your best.. or if you have a picture that'll help too.", Zane said with his usual flat tone.

"HAH! That video is bound to blow up, Dante!" Travis exclaimed, punching his friend playfully. Dante laughed alongside him, "Now we'll be.. like... rich and famous!". "Maybe not that far but... it'll be something!". The two then went off to watch their new movie as planned. Sitting down on the couch, Travis went through the channels before picking his movie. Dante then gave his friend a look, "What is it with you and birds man?" "Well... I am an Ornithologist!" Travis laughed. "Plus, This movie looks cute!! Who doesn't love ducks, am I right?"
Once their movie had ended, Dante went home and Travis was by himself once more. He stared at his video, constantly refreshing the page and watching the view count get higher and higher. Eventually, he got bored and decided to scroll, coming across a lot of soulmate videos. He let out a dramatic sigh. "This stuff again?" The white-haired boy couldn't help but frown, they were nothing but a reminder of his loneliness.

About a week later, Zane agreed to meet up with his friend Aphmau. She stayed at a local hotel with her boyfriend as the trio began their search. "So, The guy I was talking about? His name is Travis. I knew him in my freshmen year! I'm surprised you don't know who I'm talking about." She shrugged as the group at on Zane's floor. "Well... You know how my social reputation was back in HighSchool Aphmau..." The raven-haired said his voice low. Aphmau stayed silent as she pulled up a photo on her phone. "This is him" She smiled showing him the picture. Zane's face heated up in surprise, it was him. "That's my soulmate." He said feeling his body freeze.
Aphmau squealed in excitement, "I told ya, Aaron! Now you owe me a trip to the beach!" She giggled. Aaron smiled slightly, "Babe, we go to the beach every week." "Well, I wanna go... not once, but TWICE a week now!" She said playfully, kissing her boyfriend. Zane let out a groan, "You guys are gross." "You're just jealous, Zuzu!" Aphmau grinned, "Now, back to the search... I can try his old number, buuuut I don't know if he still uses it or not." She said as she dialed it. It rang and rang, and rang... Until eventually Zane felt as if he was going to pull out his hair from how impatient he was. "Ugh, Come on! Of course, he doesn't have the same number." Zane growled. "Calm down, I have my connections!" Aphmau giggled. "Lots of connections.." Aaron added. Zane raised a brow but didn't question what they meant as she went on texting whom she'd think would know Travis's number.
