RINGGG!!
The final bell goes off in Yoon Na-Ri's class. It was the last day of school before summer break. Everything was perfect.
"Have a nice summer, everyone!! Make sure to study! Grade 11 isn't going to be so easy!!"
Na-Ri shoved her heavy textbooks into her lilac bag. She couldn't wait to get out of there. Her older sister, Yoon Ji-Soo, was defiantly outside waiting for her. Ji-Soo was her only friend. The only person she loved.
"Bye, Mrs Kim!" Na-Ri shouted as she ran out of her classroom.
Na-Ri, like many other students, sprinted down the hallways. Laughter and shouts filled the jittery hallways of the high school. Na-Ri's skirt rode up as she ran.
"Stay down, stupid skirt!" she whisper-shouted, pulling down her skirt.
Na-Ri pushed the front doors open and took in a breath of the hot summer air. Freedom. The sixteen-year-old girl looked around the parking lot for her sister's car. Where did her sister park this time?
HONK!!
Na-Ri jumped at the sudden noise. She turned, and there it was, Ji-Soo's Mini Cooper Convertible. The ugliest car in the whole world.
"Get in, bean! We don't have all day!" Ji-Soo peered her head out the window.
Bean was a nickname Ji-Soo had given Na-Ri when they were little kids. Little Ji-Soo thought the mole above Na-Ri's chest looked like a bean. So, it ended up catching on.
"I'm coming!" Na-Ri said, rushing into the passenger side of the car. The younger girl picks up her backpack and chucks it into the backseat.
"Finally! It's over!" Na-Ri says, putting her feet on the dashboard.
"I'm glad too. Now you get to hang out with me all summer," Ji-Soo says, fingers drumming the steering wheel. "You know, your birthday is coming up! We have to do something special!"
"It's just a birthday, Ji-Soo, it's not important," Na-Ri says, sticking her hand out the window. The soft air glides through her fingers. Na-Ri nails, painted by Ji-Soo, alternated between baby pink and lilac.
"Sure it is! You only turn seventeen once," Ji-Soo says, stopping at a red light. "Pass me a cig, please."
Na-Ri digs into her waistband for a pack of Marlboro. Ji-Soo opens her mouth, and Na-Ri sticks a cigarette in. Na-Ri reaches into her bra for her gold cowboy bott lighter Ji-Soo bought her. Na-Ri leans over and lights it for her.
"Na-Ri! Listen, it's your song!" Ji-Soo says with the cigarette still in her mouth. She turns up the radio and bops her head to the beat.
"You are the dancing queen
Young and sweet
Only seventeen"
Ji-Soo sings along to the ABBA song, and Na-Ri giggles. She was lucky to have a cool older sister like Ji-Soo.
"Ooh! Na-Ri! You'll never guess who I met!" Ji-Soo says in excitement. Probably some artist from a band Na-Ri had no clue about.
"Who?"
"Jung Jae-Heon," Ji-Soo said with a cute smile.
"Who's that?" Na-Ri asked in curiosity.
