Hacienda Yúnshēn Bùzhīchù, Gusu Island

"You're there, Zhan," said Nana Jia to Zhan when he entered the door. "O, what was the result of your exam?"

Zhan smiled sweetly. "What's new there, Nana Jia. Of course, I topped the exams." Zhan answered while he put his school things on the table and sat down.

"Don't use English languages to me, you child," she said comfortingly. "You just heard that Sir Luis' family was talking in English and that's how you are now." (Let's just assume they are talking in their native language.. hehehe)

"Why, don't I have the right to speak English? Besides, I practiced my English well so that when I apply to big companies in Beijing, I can be accepted easily. Once, I remember my mother told me that academic records are just second only when applying for a job. They look more at whether you're smart and witty."

Nana Jia shook her head. "I don't understand, son, what you're saying. Well, why does it have to be in Beijing that you still want to work, eh, there will be a job in the capital when you graduate."

Nana Jia looked at Zhan who seemed to be dreaming. As much as possible, Nana Jia did not want Zhan to go to Beijing. Why, Zhan is young, just in his twenties, and beautiful. Act delicately and too innocent to be in a big city like Beijing.

"Beijing has many good opportunities, Nana," Zhan answered. But the truth is that it is only secondary to his reason. He looked up at the old woman while fixing his hair. Estimating what to say. "Do you know that my mom has a sibling in Beijing?"

The old woman's eyebrows met. "From the story of your parents, they have no other relatives, Zhan."

Nana Jia knew that Zhan's parents were from Chongqing, according to Zhan's father's story. Fegmian was fortunate enough to be accepted by Zhang Crystal's father as caretaker of the entire hacienda when the former holder of the position died. And the old man was immediately pleased because he had knowledge of agriculture. Only one month later he brought his wife and son to the hacienda to live there. Zhan was thirteen years old then.

Ziyuan, Zhan's mother is quiet by nature. Sometimes she's even sad and always looking away. Zhan was sixteen and in her last year of high school when Ziyuan became ill and died. And two years ago, Fengmian met with an accident and also died.

And Zhan at eighteen was completely orphaned. And since his parents did not have close friends, the couple Xiu Qing and Xiu Jia sheltered the boy. The two elders did not shoulder Zhan's continuation of his studies. After all, he only paid half the fees for the college he attended in the capital because he was a part-time scholar. Apart from that, his parents had a little money left in their bank which Zhan gradually used for any personal needs. As for the food, that comes from the allowance that Crystal's family allocates for the two caretakers.

"Where did you get that idea about your mother having a sibling in Beijing, huh, Zhan?". Zhan did not answer that. Once he was rummaging through his mother's things to see if he could use some clothes, and he accidentally found Ziyuan's diary among her old things. There he read that his mother had an older sibling in Beijing.

"I will visit Xiu Qing at the hospital in the capital, Zhan. Maybe he will come home tomorrow," said Nana Jia when Zhan did not answer her question. "It might be sunset when I get back. It's up to you to cook dinner. And have your lunch."

"Yes Nana. How about Yibo?"

The old woman let out a sigh. "That's one, and it's just noon he's been drinking already."

"He was deeply saddened by the death of his mother, Nana." Zhan's voice was tinged with sadness and sympathy. Yibo has been here for two weeks and during that time they haven't talked much. If Yibo is not drinking in the library, he is on the terrace overlooking the sea.
