    "No."

Apparently, a revelation with the Dragon Eye had been made overnight, because of course, it had. And apparently, it gave maps that lead outside the Archipelago, because of course, it had. And apparently, Stoick knew he wasn't going to stop Hiccup from going, so the chief let him, on the condition that he took a healer with him because of course, he did. And since Gothi was definitely needed on Berk, and most definitely wouldn't be suited for all the travel, it meant (Y/N) was the next choice, because of course they were.

"Uh- I'm sorry 'no'?" Hiccup stuttered, taken aback by (Y/N)'s blunt response.

"Yeah, no. Count me out, Berk is where I belong." (Y/N) said, their hands on their hips. "What, you expect me to just pack everything up and blindly follow you guys? Please."

"(Y/N) this is the adventure of a lifetime. Land never discovered- dragons never discovered! This is our chance to see things that no viking has ever laid eyes on. Doesn't that just sound incredible?" Hiccup asked, practically pleading.

"To you maybe" (Y/N) snorted. "Adventure isn't my thing Hiccup, I thought all of you knew this by now. Besides Gothi–"

Speaking of the devil, the tapping of her staff drew the attention towards her as she hobbled towards the group. She looked up at her apprentice before writing something down. (Y/N) looked and their jaw went slack.

"Oh you can't be serious." (Y/N) groaned. "Gothi come on! You know as well as anyone that I'm better here."

Gothi shook her head and rapidly scribbled some more. All the while (Y/N) was protesting with her, which was proving to be a futile attempt at swaying the elder. Finally, Gothi stamped her staff on the ground and sent a glare up to (Y/N), whose head was now hung low like a moping dog. The old woman sighed gently, and scribbled a bit more, drawing (Y/N)'s attention.

'You are capable. I know you'll serve them well.' Gothi wrote, taking (Y/N) back a bit. Gothi wasn't a woman of soft words, so the sudden mood change seemed to relax them. (Y/N) sighed, inhaled deeply, and then nodded. Gothi smiled at them and placed a bony hand on their shoulder. The elder didn't need to spell out what she was saying. 'I know you'll succeed. Make me proud.'

...

No one ever talks about how terrifying it is to ride a dragon. Sitting on a giant, flesh-eating, fire-spitting reptile that can fly, and at any moment could turn on you. It may be the fact that since Berkians are headstrong vikings, they never go around talking about the fear and craziness of it all. (Y/N) was not like those Berkians, however, and had no problem looking the glaring obvious straight into its slitted irises.

They weren't afraid of dragons, per se. They often tended their injuries, pulling out thorns or wrapping sprained wings, but that was as close of a relationship to the (Y/N) wanted. Sure it had been years since the truth about the previously invasive creatures came to light, but (Y/N) still knew what they were capable of. It terrified them. So sitting on the back of a Night Fury, one of, if not the, deadliest dragon in the Archipelago was not doing great things to their nerves.

"You ready for this?" Hiccup asked Toothless as the hovered in front of the outside barrier to the Archipelago. (Y/N) rolled their eyes as Hiccup showed more care for their dragon's opinion and well-being than the actual speaking living being. The one that was practically dragged out and was now sitting behind him riding into the unknown.

"Blah blah blah. Why do you have to make a production out of everything?" Snotlout's grating voice cut through any peacefulness there was in the air, flying a tail length behind Hiccup and (Y/N). the others were parallel to him until Snotlout began to fly forward. "Let's just go already."
