“It's nine thirty, time to get up” someone says in my ear. I sit bolt upright in bed, and my eyes shoot open.

“Nine thirty already?” I shout. “I was supposed to be up at eight!”

“Join the club” Avery grumbles. I look for her, and she's sitting on her bed, untying a pair of sneakers. I look around for whoever woke me up, and see Brianna sitting on her own bed, completely ready and grinning at me. I roll my eyes.

“You let me sleep on purpose didn't you?” I ask her.

“There's only one winner!” she chirps. I unzip my suitcase angrily, and start pulling out an acceptable outfit.

But wouldn't I do the same, in her position?

I know very well that my only competition is in this room. So why not sabotage someone in a small way like this?

After we're all ready, our group meets outside the hotel, with our luggage ready. Dave isn't there, but an NBC official is, along with a camera.

“We're heading off to the Five Directions house now” he tells us. “Once all five groups have arrived, you'll find out which group you are.” I can tell he's just saying this for the cameras.

We all pile into the limo behind him, and it's a short ride to the house.

It's huge.

And really pretty.

Outside of the city, it's set in a forest. There's a gate surrounding it, and we have to drive through that before we see the house proper.

There's a fountain in the middle of a circle of road. Our limo parks along the circle, and we all get out. There's a camera there waiting for us, along with the limo camera that follows us out.

“If you'll follow me, I'll take you to your wing of the house” the NBC guy says. We all follow him into our mansion.

There's a huge staircase right in the middle of the front hall. It all looks really formal. But instead of going up the staircase, the NBC guy goes to the left, down a long hallway. As we pass doors, he starts to explain what each one is.

“To your left, we have the common room” he says. “You'll be spending most of your off time in there.” It looks less formal then the rest of the house, I notice. There are a few more common rooms, he tells us, and then we get to the bedrooms. There are five, and each has a piece of paper attached to the white doors.

“Your name is on one of these papers, along with the name of your roommate” the NBC guy says. “At noon, I'll be back to take you to the main room for your group announcement. There are cameras in your room, but none in the adjoining bathrooms, so if you need privacy, that's where you go. Have fun, girls.” And then he leaves us alone with a cameraman.
