Chapter One

I sit down on my windowsill and pull that same novel from before out of the tote bag Marianne gave me. I wipe the front cover of the book, I can tell I'm going to enjoy reading this. I open it up and notice a cute little detail on the pages; in the top right corner are three hearts, two with swords running through them and the third a crown atop of it. I flick to Chapter One and start reading almost immediately.

I'm halfway through the first page when the book starts to glow. I throw it onto my bed in fright. The light from the book gets brighter and brighter and the pages start frantically turning one way and then the other until all I can see is a harsh white light filling up the space of my room. I put my hands up to shield my eyes.

The light slowly starts to fade, I bring my hands down and take in my surroundings, dead, everything is dead. All I can see is dead, dead, dead. But why am I here? Where is here exactly? I think I can see buildings in the distance, maybe someone will be able to help me because as far as I know one minute I'm trying to read a book and the next I'm here. Wherever here is. I take a step forward, after all I can't stay in one place and expect to magically get home can I? But as I take a step I look down to see I'm up to my ankles in swamp water. How I didn't realise this sooner I do not know but now my once white, fluffy rabbit slippers are now a murky brownish green colour that reminds me of sick.

Great. Just great. My only pair of shoes I have with me in this dying land are ruined.
"WHYYY?!" I yell up at the sky, I don't know who I'm yelling at but why do I have to have such bad luck that I'm stuck in this ugly domain with no way home in sight and my only shoes are ruined all because of a book?
