After the lights came on and their last chance for truth and knowledge was shredded and gone David was in the mirror ready to give up. How could he let this happen to himself? Everything he did was for nothing. David felt like he was destined to spend eternity alone in the void. He thought so until he heard a familiar voice.
"Hello." Yellow said, "Are you the other me?" Yellow walked up to David.
"Yes, I might as well be since I'm not good at being anything other than you. Wait how did you even get here?" David said in shock.
"The... has... my batteries were feeling fuzzy and I was feeling all wonky." Yellow tried to piece together a full sentence. David was able to understand.
"Our batteries finally died. That's just great." David said sarcastically. "Let's just hope those two idiots know what they're doing."
"The other ones aren't idiots. They're my... our friends."
"Are they?" David said.
Before David could finish talking he felt a rush of energy surge through his body. He opened his eyes to see Red and Duck looking down at him. They looked worried. David noticed that they were holding the old rusted batteries in their hand. They were properly able to switch the batteries and bring David back. But why?
"Welcome back buddy... oh it's just you." Red's voice was monotone but David could tell he was crestfallen.
"Damn it!" Duck yelled, "You were supposed to bring the other one back, not green eyes."
Duck stomped off. Once Red realized it wasn't their Yellow he stopped supporting the back of David's head and walked towards Duck. David realized he was just there by accident. Rusted batteries would be hard to come across.
"Green eyes isn't my name." David got Red and Duck's attention. "I'm David."
"David's my name you prick." Duck responded, "It was on the stone when I was put inside of that weird wooden box guy."
"You mean a coffin?" David said.
"Hey, the other one is using those big words again. Thinking he can disrespect me and acting like he's smarter." Duck wined to Red.
"Yeah, why can't you be like the first one?" Red defended Duck.
"How was helping him find the right words for the point he's trying to make being disrespectful?" David was trying to keep calm to not escalate the situation.
"Well, first how about you just shut up and go to your room? We don't need you or want you here." Red walks closer to David.
David realized how big Red was compared to him. It wasn't safe to make Red mad because David didn't know what he could do. The safest thing for him was to just comply to Red and he went to his room without saying another word.
In Trio's bedroom, David sat on his bed, trying to calm down. David didn't see red and Duck as his friends, but the mean words said to him still hurt. He knew there was a hand mirror somewhere in the room but he didn't want to find it. He wasn't in the mood for talking. Soon he got hungry and he hoped that maybe Red and Duck would have calmed down and he could get something to eat. Once David walked through the hallway he overheard Red and Duck talking about him.
"I know I'm already tired of him as well." Red rested his hand on Duck's shoulder.
"When's the other one going to come back? He might be awful at helping me with the morning crossword puzzle but at least he isn't better at it." Duck said.
"We'll just wait until the batteries get rested again. Maybe if we feed him less they might rust faster? I think that's how that works." Red suggested
"Well fine. As long as I can get the mold off of his spaghetti I guess that can work." Duck said.
"You're the only one that eats the mold," Red replied.
"And green eyes better not steal it."
David was appalled by their plan. He decided to not walk into the kitchen and instead wait for them to leave the room. When you notice the staircase he got an idea. He didn't know how well it would work but he felt desperate.
Once Red and Duck had finally left he made a beeline upstairs. Past the big boy's room and the bigger boy's room. Up to Leslie's door. He turned the knob and walked in. He could hear the piano playing a beautiful tune. The same woman sat in her chair as light beamed down from the stained glass window.
"Hello, Leslie."
"Hello David, welcome back."
