The youth of a child was admirable. The way they love so deeply and forgive just as easily was something many lacked in their adulthood. Adults hate like children love, despite the obvious differences, they consume all the same. It intertwines with your soul, warping your perception of the way you function until all you feel is the buzzing high on your tongue. Oddly enough, Katerina found that many people succumb to the sickening feeling instead of fighting it off, it is as if once the initial realization hits, the need to defy what is to come lessens.
They welcome it just as the sea welcomes wrecked ships. She used to ponder the exterior factors that contributed to the surrender but found that nothing mattered, only the pure will of the individual. Her eyes strayed to the figures in front of her; Alieus rode skillfully on the back of Tayphurth, who glided with the winds seamlessly, small pleased grumbles rumbling in his throat. Katerina believed Alieus would love indefinitely, he would burn in the palms of Aphrodite if it meant his lover would thrive.
She couldn't imagine him being selfish. The blond-haired boy who gave her his rose when he realized everyone had been gifted a flower except her. The boy who dipped his while blazer into a muddy puddle with disregard to the fabric becoming murky just so that her new boots wouldn't get dirty.
He was the only one who she couldn't scare away. No matter what she did, he always welcomed her with open arms.
Tapping her fingers rhythmically against Kavor's neck, Katerina grinned fondly as the vibrations of a groan traveled up her fingertips. She patted his side, thighs tightening around his midsection when he rushed forward.
"Kavor!" Katerina let out a joyous laugh. Alieus slowed, eyes following their moving figures as a grin curled onto his lips, pressing his boot into Taypurth's side. Raising his fists in the air, he leaned back, yelling out a quick 'whoop'.
Her eyes locked onto his, the smile unwavering and Alieus took a sharp inhale, feeling the breath leaving his lungs just as quickly as it entered. A quick nod shook him out of his stupidor. Grinning cockily, he raised an eyebrow. Katerina leaned forward as the two dragons paused, side-eyeing each other challengingly.
A wild grin played on Katerina's lips, the moment of distraction from the events prior was desperately needed and she knew Alieus felt the same. A huff of smoke erupted from Tayphurth who rushed forward with groundbreaking speed, the batting of his wings filled the air with fervor.
Kavor followed quickly. A rush of adrenaline lit her veins and she could only imagine how her faithful dragon felt in his own territory. The cumulus clouds blended into one another from the corner of her eye, the wild grin faded into something softer, more appreciative even as Alieus surpassed her.
He stopped suddenly, back straightening.
"What is it?" Katerina questioned.
Alieus pointed to the grand castle beneath them that was barely visible through the thick fog. Her blue eyes caught onto the small bulbs of light escaping the various windows of the castle and she narrowed her eyes.
"It's too high up to see anything," Katerina huffed, "Let's go to the shore. Stay hidden."
Kavor grumbled.
They, luckily, made it to shore rather quickly, the dragons providing the best way to get to the jagged rocks without creating mass hysteria. Katerina slid off Kavor's back and onto his tail like a slide, landing on the floor with a soft thump. Alieus, on the other hand, took a more.. interesting approach. Jumping off the back of an 8 foot 10 dragon was a considerably less graceful method but it worked, so she couldn't really blame him but that didn't stop her from rolling her eyes when he grinned at her sheepishly.
