I roll over on the huge bed and grab a pillow to prop myself up on. I've been on the phone with Eve for almost an hour. Several times during the call, I've had to shove my face into a pillow to stifle my laughter. I'm explaining to Eve how much of a maze the house is when I hear a knock on my door.
"I'll call you back," I tell her.
"Can I come in?" A girl's voice asks from behind the door.
I quickly get up. I was expecting it to be Donivan. I was kind of hoping it was him, too. But when I open the door, I forget all about him. The girl is at the door is so stunning. She has curly black hair that goes down to ger waist, full, mauve colored lips, and piercing dark eyes. She's wearing flared white jeans and a blouse that matches her lipstick.
"Sorry if I'm bothering you. I just figured someone should probably tell you that it's time for dinner."
Her voice is as smooth as honey. Just like Donivan's. I wonder if this is his sister Lorah, although she looks more my age than 14.
"Thanks for letting me know," I say. She's so beautiful, I almost forgot to talk.
"No problem, I'm Breanah. It's like Brenna but pronounced Bree-nuh. My mom thought she was being different and special. So, you can call me Bree if 'Breanah' is too stupid for you. Your name is Viola, right?"
"Uhh, yes. Right." I'm having trouble keeping myself from staring at her.
"We should probably head upstairs. The food is probably ready."
I follow her upstairs to the kitchen.
"Ah! Viola! I was just about to go get you for dinner. Thanks, Bree." Delia exclaims. She ushers me to the huge dining table next to the huge glass wall, "You can take Alistair's seat next to me tonight."
I thank her and sit down. Everyone at is the table except Alistair. He arrives last and sees me in his spot. I lock eye contact with him. His gaze is unemotional, I almost think he's glaring at me. He looks like he wants to object to the seating arrangement but doesn't. And instead takes a seat in empty chair next to Donivan. As everyone settles in their seats, I can feel all of the eyes in the room on me. And I don't blame them. I assume they know why I'm here, but other than that they know nothing about me. I guess Delia picks up on the energy, because she breaks the silence.
"Everyone, this is Viola. She's the new nanny. Since you're all homeschooled for the time being, that means she'll also be helping you with schoolwork. Now, I expect you'll be on your best behaviors for Miss Viola?"
All of the children at the table nod.
"Viola, would you like me to introduce everyone?" Delia asks.
I nod, "That would be very helpful, thank you."
"I know you've met Gijon, my brother-in-law. This is my sister-in-law Ira Prifti, Gijon's wife, and Breanah's mom." She points to a woman next to Gijon. Ira is beautiful like Breanah, but with darker skin and straight black hair.
Ira smiles insincerely. "Pleasure."
I give back a fake smile of my own.
Delia points to a girl who looks like a younger version of Breanah, except with straight black hair with blond streaks and bangs.
"This is Ira's other daughter, Susa."
Susa's mouth is full of food, so she waves at me.
Deila then points to two kids sitting next to each other.
"And this is Adrijana and Miroslav. We just call him Mir. They're Gijon's kids."
Adrijana looks to be Susa's age, she has curly brown hair, and is tan like Gijon. She has bright blue eyes. And Miroslav just looks like a pre-teen version of Gijon. He's the youngest out of all the kids.
