I appeared in the shadow under a bridge, taking deep breaths. I held my heart as I fell on the floor. I stared at my shaking hand. This had happened before. I paused at the realization, and everything was silent. There was a pause, and I laughed loudly.
You've crushed it. You've crushed her light!
I grinned as a few fearlings appeared on the water in front of me. "If only I was there to see her face when her hope was destroyed."
The fearlings began to circle me. "Let's go destroy more hope."
"Oh, I know that will be fun." I chuckled. "Nothing could be more delightful than that."
"Think so, huh?" Frost pointed his staff at me.
Rolling my eyes, I slowly turned around. "Congradulations, you're the first Guardian to truly find out I'm back."
Frost glared at me. "I could easily defeat you too."
"What are you hoping to accomplish?"
"Whose light did you destroy!?"
"No one you should care about. Besides, I highly doubt it will effect you Guardians. She was more of my territory. You weren't her Guardian in the first place. So it was first come, first serve."
"I'm more of anyone's Guardian than you!" He fired snow at me from his staff.
I blocked it with black sand and gripped him by his neck. "I'm her Guardian!"
"Wha... what?" He struggled.
My eyes widened as I let got of Frost. We looked at each other with wide eyes. I was as surprised as him at what I just said.
Frost glared at me, coughing. "What did you just say?"
I ran into the shadow of the bridge before Frost could get up. I opened my eyes to a child's closet. I looked at the child and shook my head. Too much was happening all at once.
Scare it. Give it a nightmare. You know you want to.
"I need to think," I softly said. "This girl is something greater than I expected. She's ruining the ounce of sanity I have."
"Pitch..."
I gasped and looked around the closet. I only saw the sleeping child.
"Pitch..." It was her voice.
Don't go to her. It'll give her hope.
"Shut up!" I ran into the darkness and appeared in her room. I stared at her for a moment. She wasn't as fragile as before, but I felt fragile. My legs could no longer keep me up, liking a part of me was torn out. "(_your name_)..." I fell on my knees.
"Pitch," she ran to me. "What's wrong? Are you hurt or something? I don't know who the Guardians are, but I didn't tell anyone about you, I swear."
I placed my hand on her cheek and softly stroked her hair.
"Pitch?"
I took a small breath. "Listen I--"
She embraced me and I froze. The world stood still as I processed what was going on. I could feel her breathing. I could feel myself relaxing. As my shoulders relaxed, I gently placed a hand on her back.
I've felt this warmth before...
"You don't have to explain. I'm just glad you're here." She locked her gaze with mine. "I wanted to see you. I wanted you here."
I felt myself smile, and I paused. Something here was familiar. Realizing what was happening inside me, I kissed her cheek. "Lovely, so am I. And I didn't think I would say that after thousands of years with this feeling." I kissed her forehead as I carried her to her bed.
She laughed and kissed me, grabbing my face. "You're the only one that's come for me."
I kissed her back and played with a bit of her hair. I traced her jawline to lift her chin up a bit, giving her one last kiss. I stood and turned away.
She clasped my hand as I began to walk away. "This isn't the last time I'll see you, right? Last time, you said I wouldn't see you again, but now you're here."
Tell her this was it.
I froze. "I... I--"
Painful shocks ran through my head, and I held it
Tell her!!
The shocks ran through my body. I saw my fearlings creeping in from under the bed.
"Pitch!"
I fell on my knees and looked at her. "I... will, no matter how hard it is." Breathing was becoming difficult as I felt something grab my sides and waist. "I will see you." I held my hand out to her, and she tried to reach for it. I see her finger getting closer and closer, but my eyes then fell on the thing I desired most of all, the look of fear on her face.
I stared at it, wanting to hear the scream that came along with it. A claw digging into my arm snapped me back to real time, and I continued to reach for her, looking at her face. Yet there was nothing I could do but fall into the darkness once more.
My fearlings dragged me into the shadow of the bed, and (_your name_) screamed. The last thing I heard was (_your name_)'s scream. The last thing I saw was her face. The last thing I touched was the tip of her finger.
I will see you again...
My back lightly touched a cool surface. I closed my eyes in the darkness that surrounded me.
I will see you.
