MAE was staring at the ceiling in her dressing room

MAE was staring at the ceiling in her dressing room. she had about two hours to spare until she was on the tonight show. yes, the tonight show with jimmy fallon. unbelievable, right? it had almost been two years since she was flown out to LA and her dreams of becoming a singer came true. now, she was comfortably curled up in a robe that the staff provided her with (which she was definitely planning on secretly taking home later), laying her back on a sofa with her legs propped up on the wall.

she had brought her old diary to read on the show, and it was currently resting on the coffee table next to her. jimmy thought it was a great idea.

mae shifted on the couch. she was calling her best friend/cousin/sister (seriously, that's how they introduce each other to people), rory. they'd always watch gilmore girls together, and rory was always mad that she shared a name with one of her least favorite characters.

"i'm literally staring at my tv waiting. hurry up." rory scolded.
"i don't think you should be in the same position for the next two hours, that's bad for your posture." mae bounced back.
"since when do you care about my posture?"
"maybe since your doctor noticed a possibility of scoliosis?!"
"whatever, i'll just arch my back for another two hours after this and it should be back to normal."
"you never fail to amuse me, rory."
"thank youuuuu!"
"i didn't say it was a compliment."

rory obnoxiously stared at the camera, followed by giggles from both of the girls. they were lifelong best friends—well, rory was older, but it still counts. the girls were cousins from mae's dad's side. mae always preferred that side of her family. she didn't have the best relationship with her mother, which was unfortunate since that's who she mainly lived with for most of her childhood. when mae turned 18 the year before, she moved out as fast as she could, but she didn't love the idea of living in a dorm. she bought her own apartment in walking distance from campus with the help of her family. it was better there.
