"it's after school, i'm hungry.... why are we in the art room again?"
"you'll see soon enough. hey sanders!"
"patel! what brings you here?"
"listen nat, i need a favor."
"it doesn't involve him, right?"
"hey, standing right here yanno!"
"nobody cares. listen, i'm trying to convince him of the boy theory. remember the thing sherry de rosa keeps spreading around?"
"yeah and it's a hundred percent true."
"see, i still don't get it!"
"shut up matty. now nat, my favor is that you tell him what happened between you and nathan. i want to show him how many people this really happens to."
"gladly. so, it started in the seventh grade, when i first moved here to rosemont. nathan and i sat next to each other in english, because sanders, samson, you get the idea."
"where even is this going?"
"shut up, li. anyways, it took a few months but we finally ended up talking after we were paired up for a project. time flew by and by freshman year we were practically best friends. we always played league together, ate lunch with the same group of friends, and constantly messaged on facebook."
"don't say another word matty. i saw you about to open your mouth."
"yeah well it seemed like they had a great time together. i get that. what happens next? i'm getting very impatient."
"i would have continued if i hadn't been so rudely interrupted. anyways, we did have a great time, the best. it was after winter break that year when i began to notice a change. over break, nathan and his family went on a trip to LA, and he met this girl there. turns out she goes to murray high, not too far away from here. they were dating for a week when i saw him at school again. suddenly there was less league, and he started going off campus for lunch to go see her. whenever i'd try to strike up a conversation he'd seem distant, and then say he'd have to leave."
"so he got a girlfriend, big deal."
"would you let me finish dammit? so by the end of freshman year we were almost not speaking to each other anymore. then one day in the summer he came over, said he needed a friend. so i let him in and we hung out like we used to, for that one night i thought things were going to be okay between us, but then when i tried to call him the following week, he said he was busy and we were back at square one."
"so what about now?"
"well let's see. he's still dating cathy, the girl he met freshman year, he's never on league anymore, he unfriended me on facebook, and he barely acknowledges me."
"so there you have it. you convinced yet?"
"it's just one story. how can i trust a one in a million experience."
"why are you so stupid? god this is gonna take awhile. thanks again natalie."
"no problem love, good luck to you."
"where are we going now? hey stop yanking my arm!"
"i'm taking you to starbucks."
"why? all that talk makes me want to go home and play league."
"just shut up, there's someone else i want you to talk to."
"i will if you buy me coffee."
"done, now walk faster."
