~3rd person pov~ "are you sure you don't need me to come along?"asked a boy his face full of worry even tho he should worry for himself since he's the weak one here "don't worry Y/n I'm always careful" reassured a pink headed girl "plus you also have a mission with Tomioka, or did you forget?" said Mitsuri smiling at the nervous boy "listen once we are both done with our mission lets celebrate with sakura mochi's!" said Mitsuri "oh I know a place where they make them very well!" said Y/n excited "let's go there after!" said Mitsuri she got her sword and walked out of the door not before warning her tsuguko "be careful and make sure not to tire yourself out!" said Mitsuri.
Y/n was walking towards a gloomy forest where a huge mountain was spotted "this must be the place..." mumbled Y/n he smiled feeling a little ball of fur landing on his shoulder "hello snowy!" said Y/n earning a chirp from the small white bird the boy continued walking into 'Mount Natagumo'. "I know you're coming along but who's the other hashira..." asked Y/n he looked at a man with raven hair and blue eyes "the insect hashira and the flower tsuguko." said Giyuu they were walking deeper into Mount Natagumo "we will separate to find the demon faster, and if you find one you know what to do." said Giyuu looking at the shorter boy "of course!" said Y/n smiled nervously before Giyuu blinked Y/n was already running Giyuu sighed before doing the same.
~Past~
"Kanae do you really think demons can be befriended?" said a short boy a tall slim woman turned towards the boy her red lips curved into a smile "demons were once humans, we just need them to realize that harming others isn't good" said the woman her gentle voice reaching the boys ears "they are really scary how will humans accept them?.." asked Y/n "I already did maybe people need to warm up...do you want to become friends with demons?" asked Kanae making Y/n think about his answer "maybe when a demon shows up and shows no hostility maybe then I'll see your point of you!" said Y/n smiling at the slim woman.
"Kanae, Kanae!" yelled a boy catching Y/n's attention "yes Y/n?" asked Kanae "will you teach me your breathing technique, pretty please!" begged Y/n the tall woman smiled "are you very fast?" asked Kanae "yes!" said Y/n "good because this technique is used by demon slayers with a lot stamina!" said Kanae.
~Back to the present~
"Y/n are you ok?" asked someone quietly "h-huh...oh Kanao!" Y/n smiled seeing his close friend "did you find the demon yet." asked Kanao "n-no sorry..." pouted Y/n he felt a hand on his shoulder and saw it was Kanaos he smiled and no more words came out of the girl Y/n knew Kanao only talked few words and mostly listened to orders but Y/n didn't want to order others around so he and Kanao walked together their swords out in case a demon tries ambushes them "hmm—" Y/n heard footsteps "maybe we should split up..." Y/n turned around to tell Kanao but she was already gone "o-oh" mumbled Y/n he then ran to the the footsteps and found a boy running away from something and a smaller girl "w-what..." mumbled Y/n confused the bird in his shoulder then chirped and a loud crow was heard "Y/N KIYO THE BOY AND DEMON ARE ESCAPING!!" it crowed "r-right!!" Y/n quickly ran catching up to the black headed boy "h-hey stop right there!" yelled Y/n nervously "sorry I just can't!" apologized Tanjiro not wanting his sister being killed he then saw Kanao running as well "I'll stop the boy you can get the demon right?" asked Y/n he smiled seeing Kanao nod Y/n jumped high before kicking the boy and landing on his back Y/n "p-please get off me my sister is in danger!" said Tanjiro "s-sumimasen" Tanjiro was confused at first until Y/n raises his leg and knocks Tanjiro unconscious Y/n stood up and sighed "i-if you had just calmed down I wouldn't had to do that!" said Y/n nervously he picked the tall boy up but struggled a bit "what happened to the boy?" asked a kakushi walking next to Y/n "I knocked him out...he was thrashing around a lot..." said Y/n with a embarrassing frown "don't worry you did a good job the love hashira will be proud." said the kakushi Y/n gave the unconscious Tanjiro to the kakushi before catching up to Kanao.

"who was Kanae to you?" asked a gentle voice "she was...someone I really loved."
