The nightmare was recurring and terrifying. It always started in the Tournament, and the first task was murder. I had to kill innocent people to pass it. I would wander through a long corridor before I came upon a wooden door at the far end. I opened it and a young girl sat in a chair in the middle of the room, my wand lay on a pedestal next to her. A snake like voice whispered in my ear, "Kill."
I walked over to the pedestal and picked up my wand. The girl stared up at me, horrified, and begged for her life, "Please! Please don't hurt me." She sobbed out.
I stared back into her hazel, pleading eyes, "I'm sorry." I raised my wand and pointed it at her forehead, my hand shaking. I stared into her never changing eyes, and her face started to transform around them. George soon was the one looking up at me, with Fred sitting next to him in another chair that had appeared.
"Hadley?" He questioned, confused, before seeing the wand that was now pointed at his forehead and his expression changed into one of betrayal. "What are you doing?"
The wand in my hand shook even more than before as I sobbed out, "I'm so sorry. I have to! You don't understand, I don't have a choice!"
Fred turned towards me as well, a look of disappointment that mirrored his brother's resting on his face. "Hadley! You're not really going to..kill us are you?"
I sobbed harder at his words and whispered the incantation. "Avada Kedavra." Fred's body hit the floor with a thud of finality and George stared in horror at me, then dropped onto his knees sobbed over the loss of his brother.
The eyes that had once held so much laughter and happiness now blinked up at me, as still and lifeless as the body lying next to him. "Just kill me too. You killed the only person that made me happy. Let me be with him. Just kill me." He bent back over and laid his head on his brothers chest, sobs raking his body.
I lifted the wand once again, and pointed it at George. "I'm so sorry," I whispered, before managing to speak the next two words that would end my best friend's life, and make me the murderer of two innocent boys. "Avada Kedavra." George's body hit the floor next to his brother.
I woke up with a gasp, and sat stick straight up in my bed. It was hard to believe the other girls were still sleeping peacefully in their beds, and the world was carrying on as normally as it always did. The sun was rising over the Lake, so I got out of bed and began dressing. There was absolutely no chance I would be able to sleep after the nightmare I had just dreamt. I threw my hair up in a messy bun and grabbed the muggle book I was currently reading, The Best of Sherlock Holmes. Before long I found myself in the common room, sitting on a couch, across a boy whom I had never seen before.
He was reading a paper, so I chose not to strike up a conversation, and settled into one of the armchairs, opening the book I had brought down. Before I had finished a page, however, the boy cleared his throat obnoxiously, obviously trying to get my attention. At least I had the common decency to leave a person that was reading in peace. Even so, I looked up from my book, slightly annoyed.
"Hullo. I'm Adam Leary." The boy stood up and reached out his hand.
Well, he seemed pleasant enough. Although I was still a touch peeved from the interruption, I smiled and gave him my hand. "Hadley. Haven't seen you around before, what year are you?"
He grinned back at me. "I'm in my seventh year. Not many people notice me, so don't feel bad. I've seen you around though, Hadley. You usually are with the Weasley twins, and they're a bit much for me, so I've never had a chance to introduce myself!"
I laughed, "Yeah, they can be a little overwhelming for people who aren't used to them. Anyhow, it's a pleasure to meet you, Adam Leary."
He smiled in return, "What are you doing up so early? Usually I'm the only one insane enough to be up at the crack of dawn!"
