All I can remember is that day. The day I was supposed to shine above the rest, complete the only thing I was ever good at. But it slipped through my fingers as so I did on the ice. I even remember the way the crowd gasped before everything went black.

Why couldn't I shine?

Macy's converse slam against the concrete, her lungs desperately sucking in the cold winter air. Her legs have gone numb a while ago, but that doesn't stop her from running. Running is all she can do. She has to train. Train for the day she gets back on the ice and shows everyone she's better..she's waited for that day for 1 year.

It's been a year since her big fall.

She hasn't forgotten. Even sometimes, while she sleeps, she feels her body drifting through the air on her ice skates before slamming down into something hard..hard like the ice. She'll never forget how it felt to feel everything and nothing at the same time.

She'll never let go of the fear that keeps her from doing anything. Everyone told her to take a break, and so she has, but now her break is over.. She is ready to try again. And this time, she refuses to fail. She will kill herself to the end in order to succeed.

Macy takes a shaky breath in as she approaches her small house, slowly walking up. She looks to the ground mainly, making sure she doesn't slip on the ice that coats her driveway..

Ice.

"And give it up for Macy Romeo!" The announcer yells as Macy approached the ice, her figure skates tied tightly to ensure no mistakes. She feels the crowds eyes on her as she steps a blade on the ice, flawlessly skating toward the center before she comes to a graceful stop. Then the music starts playing..

Macy tries to get the memories out of her head as she gets to her front door. She fumbles in her pocket for the keys, and when she gets them out, she drops them. She turns to pick them up to see they landed on ice. She sucks in a harsh breath.

Ice.

Macy feels the ice tear into small marks as she glides gracefully, with no mistakes. She makes it look effortless. She picks up some speed before doing a scratch spin, turning out of it backward, gliding backwards perfectly. Her arms around her as she imagines everything she could be if she wins.

Macy swallows hard. "Stop." She whispers to herself as she bends down, picking up her house key. She makes sure not to touch the ice directly, not wanting to spring up more of the memories of that night. She turns and quickly shoves the key into the lock, forcing the door open. When she opens the door, she sees her brother waiting for her.

"How was your walk, Mace? Did you slip on any ice?" Her brother, Max, asks jokingly, but the simple joke sends her mind, tumbling into a frenzy.

Ice.

Macy quickly changes her movement, now skating forward. She takes a deep breath, saying encouraging words in her head, as she jumps off the ice, doing a quick and fast spin, before landing flawlessly back on her skates. Never once does she lose the speed. Never once does she mess up..yet.

Macy can almost feel her converse tightening around her foot and ankles as if it's an ice skate. Everything brings her back to that night. How can she stop it all? Most people don't have it like this..what's so wrong with her? Macy then clicks back into reality, looking to her brother.
