HENDERSON

*FLASHBACK*

It was one of those many nights when the full moon was at its peak, shining overhead and giving everything in sight a silvery grey shine. Thirteen year old me and aunt Mira came to visit grandpa all the way from Mupin city. My grandpa as wealthy as he was chose a life of seclusion, away from the hustle and bustle of the city and I couldn't fathom why. Even at that, there was a thing I couldn't comprehend. I and aunt Mira made sure we visited grandpa on the same date, every single month. It was like some kind of ritual for them.

This very full moon was different from the other nights I had witnessed with them in this dense forest. The atmosphere was eerie and weird sending shudders and my skin fully evident with goosebumps. Aunt Mira and grandpa decided to go take a walk as usual and I was left alone to do my business.

Hastily as they had left, aunt Mira and grandpa came in with an elderly woman almost unclad and barely hanging on to life and a little girl not less than ten years, her hair matted to her face with no footwear all looking dirty. Grandpa and my aunt Mira took the elderly lady to another room where she was been treated and taken care of, and the little girl left alone at a corner of the room. Taking a look at her state, I pitied her and cleaned up her wounds and the dirt on her face.

I could tell she was traumatized and unwilling to look at me. I was about to take my leave when she grabbed my forearm. Still unable to look at my face, I sat beside her and sang her to sleep her little hands still holding on to my forearm as if I was her very last hope.

**************************************************
Scrunching my pillows and wriggling from side to side, sounds of howling and prowling reverberating on every side. I saw myself running with a pack of wolves trampling on everything on my path, leaving visceral fear in my wake. Whenever the nightmare neared its end, I saw myself sinking my teeth to the neck of a girl I find oddly familiar.

As usual, I always woke up with a jumpstart, cold sweats soaking my sheets. Sitting on my bed, I ran my hands through my hair in frustration. What was the use of the ridiculous amount of dollars spent on therapy every month. My night has never been the same without the vivid nightmare. No night has passed since my eighteenth birthday that I haven't been tortured by this same nightmare with each one becoming brutal and intensified than the last.

Getting up from my bed, I walked to the bathroom adjoined to my bedroom to relieve my bladder and wash the remainder of the horror off my face. Returning to the bedroom, i checked the time and it was past one in the morning. Since sleep disappeared the way it came, I made a decision to go for a drive and go for beer at Mr Scott's pub.

I have known Mr Scott or Scott man as I fondly call him for as long as I could remember. He was a well known former and last butler to be employed in the Smith's mansion. He worked for my grandfather anyways and he was infamous for his strict nature. All in all, he was good at whatever he does. And for everytime I needed fatherly advice and love, he was the best person to turn to and he had never disappointed.

I was not brought up by my biological parents and I'm not even familiar with them. I remember not even a faint image of my mother and my father. From the onset, I had been catered for by my grandpa, Mr Scott and my aunt Mira.

I headed to my closet and made a mental note to dress casually for I was a sucker for statement outfits. I dressed up, grabbed my keys to go for a drive. Circling Mupin city for a while, I noticed the city doesn't get old, it just gets more interesting with a skyline illuminating and the floating orbs on the streets exuding elegance. Making a reverse, I headed towards the intersection leading to the pub.

Approaching the pub's drive through, I noticed the place was almost empty. The time had eaten late into the night and it was normal to see few or no customers in the pub or it's environs. Pushing the sliding door and finding my way into the pub, I noticed a red head running around frantically trying to clean up the mess made by the customers and our eyes met. I removed my eyes from hers immediately but I could feel her eyes linger as I made my way down to the bar, her eyes boring holes to my back.

When our eyes met, I felt a kind of way. The feeling was inexplicable. Something inside of me twitched but I couldn't fathom what it was. It was all strong and longing. I waved it off, " Hormones, fucking damn hormones", I said to myself. Grabbing a stool and setting my buttocks comfortably on it, I waited for Mr Scott to notice my presence, more of like i wanted to give him a surprise.

Henderson he called when he noticed my presence, beaming and twinkling with happiness. " How have ya been, it's been a while you lil boy", hugging and shaking me in turns. "I missed you Scott man, and I'm doing well", I responded.
"Very well then", he replied and shrugged hos shoulders.

"How about Mira, still fierce", Mr Scott asked.
I don't know, raising my hands in surrender. Maybe you should find out yourself, I said between chuckles. "

Back in the days, aunt Mira and Mr Scott had a thing for each other, but they fell out because of a misunderstanding. Despite that, the sparks were still evident, clear as day.

"Why are you here this late at night. I know you Henderson, you are not one to leave your house this time of the night to come see me for beer when you can get any liquor of your choice delivered to your door step in seconds. Spill it out boy, what's the matter",he inquired.

I heaved out a heavy sigh. I told him about my nightmares which were becoming more lucid with each passing night, draining me in the most cruelest of ways.

Mr Scott stared at me blankly and searched my eyes. "Henderson he called, what if....., I repeat, what if ...... your incessant nightmares are a cue for you to investigate your ancestry. What if you are not entirely human",he asked.

Pressing my lips together I thought, what if Scott man was right, what if I'm not entirely human. With each episode of the nightmares, I consistently woke up with a feeling of emptiness and hollowness, like there was a particular side of me that needed utmost attention. Even with all my emassed wealth and connections, I was not satisfied with the niche I currently occupied. I yearned for more power. Bringing myself out of my reverie, I took a look around the pub's new decor and I sure stole one or two glances at redhead doing her work, her silhouette enhancing her curves.
