"The final dish is Coq au Riesling!" said the head chef in a thick French accent.
I dosed off as the chef was describing our main dish, a chicken based meal. It was friday night and we were expecting a tight schedule filled with very wealthy guests. Only the most priviliged residents in California could afford to eat at Les Chefs de France. I looked around at my co-workers, they were all wearing our signature restaurant colors black and blue. The girls were wearing tight black dresses that fell just right above the knee and the men were wearing blue button down shirts. It was no surprise that everyone who worked for Chef Jean-Claude was attractive. He believed the people should be just as pleasant to look at as the food he was preparing.
"Is it true?" the petite blonde whispered, her blue eyes widening with excitement. I had never seen her before so I'm assuming she was new.
"Yes, they're scheduled for 7 o'clock tonight! The producer is bringing his wife to talk about her new project. I overheard him talking on the phone." the other waitress answered, giggling.
I rolled my eyes, every waitress in Les Chefs de France was excited to work tonight so they could get a chance to meet Gabriel Parkers, the famous Hollywood producer. He was the producer of many hit shows like Midnight Academy and Plain Jane gone bad, every teen girl's favorite TV shows at the moment. Almost every waitress here was a struggling actress or an "undiscovered model" waiting for their big chance to make it in the business.
"....Dont forget to smile and be polite, these people pay your bills!"
And with that note we all headed to the main room, ready to serve our guests. The restaurant was just as elegant and big as the name implied, beautiful white roses and candles were set at every table along with a complimentary champagne bottle. I walked up to my first table of the night, hoping I wouldnt get the usual rude guest with big expectations and an even bigger ego.
I plastered a big fake smile, carrying the restaurant's menu in my hand. The guests were seated at the table, looking around in amazement. It was a family of four, not too bad.
"Welcome to Les Chefs de France! My name is Lumiere and I shall be taking care of you tonight. Here are our menus, please take a look and see what's to your liking."
The family opened up the menu and in a few minutes I had their orders written down and ready to serve. Two hours and families later, my shoes were starting to hurt my feet. I looked at the clock, hoping I could take an early break but was soon discouraged as I saw how busy the restaurant was getting. The people were starting to come in. While my last table enjoyed their food I went to check what my other table was when I was stopped by Rachel Andreu, my manager.
"Lumiere! I've been wanting to speak to you about your seating arrangements for tonight." He said, looking around the restaurant.
I grimaced, Rachel was the meanest manager I had ever worked for, he would look at you up and down and point out all of your imperfections then smile at you and ask you to do your job right.
"What about it?" I asked, my seats had already been assigned to me.
"We have two very special guests that I need you to take care of." his voice lowered, "I'm assuming you heard that Gabriel Parkers and his wife are joining us for dinner?"
My heart dropped. "Oh no Rachel," I said shaking my head. "Cant you give that table to anyone else? You know all the other waitresses will have my head if they see me serving them!"
He grinned."They will be unproffesional and ruin this restaurant's reputation if they serve the Parkers. You on the other hand are just a talentless college dropout who will treat them just like everyone else in this restaurant."
