Present day.
It was a peaceful evening in Carlsbad, New Mexico. The sun was just about to set and a nice breeze blew through an elderly man sitting outside with a young boy talking about his youth."I just love the stars, don't you son?" The man smiled looking around the almost night sky. "Yes, Mr. Styles they sure are lovely. Its getting late sir. Would you like to go inside now?" The young man asked.
This would happen every night, Mr. Styles would sneak off out side and the young guard would find him setting on a bench just across the field looking out over the small town. They'd talk and talk until the sun set and it was time to go inside.
Tonight however was different. Mr. Styles didn't hold that glint in his eyes that the young man admired so much. Something seemed off about him, a sadness tinted his face as he tried to keep a small smile for the company of the guard.
Mr. Styles knew it was time, that this would be his last night on earth and he wanted to make sure someone knew the truth. The truth of when his life began, the happy part of his life. He didn't want just anyone to know. No, he wanted Jake the young man who found him every night on the same old bench and listened to what he had to say.
"No. N-no, I'd like to tell you one more story before we go in." He smiled. Jakes face twisted into a sad one as he saw the look on the older mans face. How could he have said no to this man, this man was one of his only friends. He worshiped this man and all he'd known. "O-of course Mr. Styles. You can tell me as many stories as you wish. I'll just tell them we went for a long walk and didn't realize how far we'd gone off."
Mr. Styles smiled and this time for the first time that night it was a real smile. He'd finally tell his story, the story of how a pretty doe eyed girl saved his life one night, just as he had changed hers. He turned back to the sky and smiled up at the stars knowing that she'd be listening. Wherever she was, he hopped she was happy, and that he was still safely in her heart.
"I'm going to tell you a story about love, Jake. How love changes everything. How love is a blessing, and how love is in a girl named Aurora." He stared dreamily into the stars. He'd never noticed the stars until he met her. He never liked much until she came around. Most of all, he had no hope before her.
"The girl who noticed the stars."
