The Dursley family spent a delightful month together, enjoying their time before the departure of Dudley and Harry. During this period, they engaged in pleasant activities, combining regular study and exercise with quality family outings. While Hogwarts also had holidays, this was their first extended trip.
Dudley often visited Hermione's house during this time, bringing Harry along to study together. This resulted in Harry having to pre-read a considerable amount of textbook material. Hermione occasionally reciprocated by visiting the Dursleys, which Petunia was very happy about.
The two families occasionally joined forces for fishing trips since they attended the same school, fostering a closer relationship.
The news of Dudley running his own company, especially with the famous 'Jerry,' startled the Dursley couple. Learning that their son was so accomplished, especially in comparison to their nephew, left them unsure of how to express their feelings.
As the day arrived for Dudley and Harry to leave, the Dursleys were busy with preparations.
"Dudley, Harry, do you have enough clothes for the trip?"
"Dudley, are you sure about taking all those things?"
"Harry, remember to bring Hedwig's food. Feed from the white bag on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, green bag on Tuesday and Saturday, and the yellow bag on Sundays. Don't overfeed, and remember to send me letters."
Vernon arranged their luggage while Petunia persistently reminded them of various instructions, always concluding with, "Lily used to do the same when she went to school."
Hedwig was the name of the owl that Harry had. "Got it, Mum."
"Got it, Aunt Petunia."
Dudley and Harry nodded like obedient little chicks.
Petunia's owl food was remarkably appealing to Hedwig, and Harry had, unknowingly, contributed to Hedwig gaining a few pounds during the past month. Asked about the owl's favorite, Petunia fondly recalled Lily's owl similarly enjoying her homemade food.
"Isn't it fascinating that wizards take the train to school? I thought they'd use more magical means, like giant pumpkin carriages pulled by countless pegasuses or thestrals or flying pirate ships."
Vernon grumbled. Over the past month, Harry and he had been forcefully pulled up by Dudley to exercise every day, and their stomachs had shrunk several times.
"It's about time we set off. By the way, which platform is it?"
Harry answered thoughtfully, "King's Cross Station, the Hogwarts Express departs from Platform 9¾ at eleven o'clock."
"Hmm." Vernon looked somewhat astonished. "Never heard of that platform. Well, it finally has a sense of mystery from the magical world, I suppose."
King's Cross Station was approximately an hour's drive from the Dursleys.
At the entrance of the station, they found the Granger's, and the two families entered together.
"Here is Platform 9, and there is Platform 10. So, where's Platform 9¾?"
Vernon pointed to the signs for Platforms 9 and 10.
"Is it enchanted like the Leaky Cauldron?"
Mr. Granger inquired.
"I read in 'Hogwarts: A History' that the entrance is right here, between Platforms 9 and 10."
Hermione pointed to a spot between the second-to-last and last pillars closest to Platform 10.
"As expected of Hermione, she is so smart and knows everything." Petunia looked at Hermione with a slightly doting look. The more she looked at her, the more she liked her. Then she glared at Dudley and Harry: "Look at you. You two boys, you don't study hard every day, you just know how to play."
Hermione's love for learning made her see the shadow of her sister Lily. Back then, Lily also loved reading and studied so much, and her grades were so good, even if she went to Hogwarts the relationship between the two sisters at Hogwarts was actually not that bad in the beginning. If it weren't for a certain unpleasant meeting, the two of them should have been closer.
It was all the fault of James, that unlearned bastard, who led her astray.
Dudley was shot even while lying down, and he was obviously no worse than Hermione in terms of effort, and he could beat her every time.
Maybe he is someone else's child.
Anyway, everything from other people's homes is good.
"Dudley, you're a boy and you're so strong, don't you know how to help Hermione share some of the luggage? Young man, show some chivalry! "
Petunia urged Dudley while loading Hermione's luggage onto his cart, emphasizing, "Take good care of Hermione at school. Don't bully Hermione, let alone let her be bullied by others.."
Hermione blushed as she listened. After saying their goodbyes quietly, she pushed the cart toward the second-to-last pillar, disappearing with it. Dudley and Harry followed suit.
Observing the three kids vanish, Petunia sighed with emotion. "Hermione is such a quiet child."
If Dudley knew, he would undoubtedly argue that Hermione's love for studying didn't make her quiet at all.
"Oh, Dudley is also remarkable. Excellent in both academics and sports."
"Oh, oh, oh." x2
Both mothers praised each other's children, exclaiming how wonderful they were. Fathers, on the other hand, mostly stayed quiet.
"Vernon, my friend, how about a drink? How about the Leaky Cauldron?"
"The Leaky Cauldron's drinks are unique, but they lack some punch. I know of a new pub with stronger spirits."
"What are we waiting for?"
The two families left the station together.
On the other side, successfully passing through the pillars, Dudley felt a sudden openness in the surroundings. The narrow train platform had widened considerably, and a deep red steam engine labeled "Hogwarts Express" stood by the side. The platform, previously sparsely populated, was now bustling with people dressed in attire similar to Diagon Alley residents. The thick smoke from the steam engine swirled over the chattering crowd, and various cats roamed freely, occasionally hearing the screeching calls of owls.
It was evident that these were students on their way to Hogwarts.
Dudley's journey to Hogwarts was about to begin.
