Regina and Y/n were each other's nemesis. They never liked each other ever since they met during their freshman year. Y/n always seemed to have an attitude, and never let Regina's insults and intimidation get to her. She was the only person immune to her. They would also always mock each other in the halls. Y/n would always have a witty comeback for all of Regina remarks and insults, which was one of the reasons why Regina didn't like her.

One day, Regina was walking into school late and heard a fight breaking out down the hall. She went over to see who it was and what was happening. Regina pushed through the crowd of people with ease, and saw it was Y/n and some random dude fighting. It looked like they had each landed a few good hits, but Y/n was winning.

"Nobody talks about Regina that way, ok?" Y/n says firmly as she punches him again, "If I ever hear you or anyone talking about her like that again, you'll end up somewhere worse than the nurse's office." Y/n punches him one last time before Principal Duvall breaks them apart.

'Was Y/n fighting that guy because of me? Was she really defending me? She hates me.' Regina thought to herself.

Mr. Duvall brings the guy to the nurse's office as he was beat up pretty bad, and Y/n to his own office. Regina decides to follow Y/n and Mr. Duvall to see what the fight was actually about. On the way to his office, she overhears people gossiping about the fight.

Mr. Duvall begins to question Y/n about the incident while Regina waits outside the office. After ten minutes of questioning, Mr. Duvall exits his office to go question the guy in the nurse's office, leaving Y/n there alone. Once Regina saw the principal leave, she enters his office to do some questioning of her own. She leans against the doorframe with her arms crossed and a smirk on her face. "You wanna tell me what that fight was about?"

Y/n turns around at the sound of Regina's voice. She hopes that Regina didn't hear what it was about. "It was nothing Regina" Y/n brushes her off.

Regina continues to look at her with a prying expression, "Didn't sound like nothing..."

'Damn it!' Y/n thought, 'I hope she didn't hear what I said to the guy, or more importantly, what he said about her.'

"You gonna tell me what it was about?" Regina continues to act like she doesn't know it was about her to some extent.

"Regina it was nothing, don't worry about it." Y/n brushes it off again, not wanting to tell her what happened before the fight broke out.

"Too late, everyone is talking about it. So it's either you tell me the truth about what happened, or I learn some rumoured version of it." Regina states.

"Shit" Y/n says under her breath. "It was about something he said" She answers very vaguely.

"What did he say?" Regina pries.

Y/n stays silent, still not wanting to reveal what he said.

"Come on Y/n, just tell me!" Regina takes a step closer to her.

"He was bad mouthing you. He was saying some... inappropriate and nasty things. He said he wanted to ruin you and your reputation."
Y/n finally says without going into detail, "I overheard him and I couldn't take it, so I beat him up. He won't ever do that again, that's for sure."

Regina's eyes softened slightly, but her demeanor still not wavering. "So you... stood up for me? Why?"

"Well yeah," Y/n began "I couldn't just stand there and listen to that asshole say all those awful and nasty things about you. Nobody is allowed to talk about you that way."

Regina is genuinely surprised that Y/n would do that for her considering their relationship. She was surprised she even cared. "You went to all that trouble and got hurt just to defend me? I thought you hated me?" Regina said, her vulnerability showing through.

"No trouble at all, nobody is allowed to speak about you like that, ever. And besides, he barely hurt me. He only got like two punches in, it barely hurts. You should see him though." Y/n chuckles. "And... I don't hate you G. You're just a bit insufferable at times," She jokes "but I don't hate you."

Regina's expression softens even more. She looks almost shy and vulnerable? That's a first. Regina takes another small step towards Y/n and brushes her hand against Y/n's arm, "Thank you for standing up for me." She then gives her a smile. A genuine smile.

Y/n shivers from Regina's hand brushing against her. "Always..."

"I still don't understand why you would defend me though. I've been nothing but mean to you since we met, and I always thought we had this mutual dislike for each other."

"I don't like hearing people say bad things about you. And it's not that I didn't like you, it's just... well you never liked me, so I guess I played it off as if I didn't like you either." Y/n admits.

"So you've been faking it this whole time?"

"Well except those times when you were insufferable" Y/n chuckles.

Regina chuckles with you, "Right, except those times." She jokes.

'Who is this? This is a completely different Regina than the one I've known for the last three years.' Y/n thought.

"You have no idea how much everyone's gossiping about what you did, about how you defended me."

"What are they saying?"

"They were talking about how you had a soft spot for Regina George."

Y/n's eyes widen, "Oh..."

"Yeah, they're also saying that you would've never had defended me if there weren't some kinda feelings involved." She continues.

"What?!" Y/n exclaims, a blush rising to her cheeks. "Where did they get that from?"

Regina smirks to herself, "Yeah I told them they were crazy." Her eyes flicker from Y/n's eyes, to her lips, then back up to her eyes.

"What if..." Y/n looks at Regina's lips as well, "... what if I said they weren't that crazy?"

"Did you just admit to having a crush on me
Y/n?" Regina says playfully.

Y/n looks at Regina's lips again and smirks, "Maybe..."

Regina takes a step closer to Y/n. "Is that a yes?"

Y/n brings one of her hands up and gently tucks a piece of hair behind Regina's ear, and keeps her hand on her jaw. She lightly brushes her thumb back and forth on her cheek. "Yeah" she says, her voice low and breathless.

Regina's breath hitches and she can't move. Was she really being so vulnerable with a girl she hated yesterday?

Y/n then grabs Regina by the waist and pulls her in for a passionate kiss. Regina melts into the kiss as her body shifts closer to her. Regina then wraps her arms around Y/n's neck as they continue to kiss. Eventually, they both pull away for air and look into each other eyes.

Y/n looks at her and smiles, "So you like me too then huh?"

"Maybe I do, maybe I don't." Regina shrugs playfully, "Take me on a date and you'll find out."

Y/n smiles and blushes, "Would you like to go out with me Regina George?"

Regina gives Y/n a genuine smile, "Yes, I'd love to."

Y/n pulls her in for one last kiss right before Mr. Duvall walks back in. They both separate as he walks in. "Miss George, would you excuse us?"

"Of course Mr. Duvall." Regina begins to leave the room before Y/n grabs her arm and turns her around.

"Text me?" Y/n says.

"Of course" Regina smiles and exits the office.
