Episode Four: Water Walking and the Daily Lives of Triplets

🍥

The weather in Konoha was sunny and warm, with the occasional breeze preventing it from diving into hot territory. Team 9 stood in front of a large river, the water still with the exception of light ripples from the wind. The genins stood in line with their sensei and mother towering over them. A smile on her face.

"Now, with the break that we have from our missions–" Kyoko said.

"Chores you mean?" Akimitsu butted in.

"Missions," Kyoko emphasized warningly. "This is the perfect opportunity for some more training and lessons."

The three stood straighter and excitement morphed on their faces.

"The first is testing your chakra controls. I've taught you how to control it while you were taught the theoretical aspect in school," said Kyoko. "And with both knowledge in mind, you three are going to put all of that into practice."

The woman turned and gestured towards the river. The triplets peered down, their appearance distorted in the water's reflection. They immediately knew what their teacher was asking of them.

"I've heard of this," Kyouya said. "Ninjas place their chakra onto their feet in order to stay afloat on water."

Kyoko nodded. "Exactly. And it's not just water. Trees, roofs, walls and so on. That's one of the many things you can do once you grasp chakra control and can move a great deal of it onto certain parts of your body."

As a demonstration, Kyoko walked towards the water and instead of falling through like it should normally, her feet stuck above its surface like it would on solid ground. She walked around to further prove her point, watching her children's eyes as they followed her movement, observing how her feet stayed firmly planted on the water.

"Now," Kyoko said after stopping. "You three try."

The genins glanced at each other with looks that were a cross between intrigue and hesitation. Each closed their eyes, concentrating on channeling their chakra towards their feet. They could feel it move towards their soles, which felt as though blood was rushing through their veins to settle on a specific part.

With their feet induced in chakra, they gradually walked towards the water and placed one foot on top. And the result was with varying degrees of success. Kagami's almost fell through, but managed to stay afloat at the last minute. Kyouka managed to make his foot stay floating at the get-go, but he could feel the water wet his sandals. And finally, Akimitsu had his foot stay perfectly on the water without the threat of falling through or feeling any wetness.

With one foot on top, the triplets decided to try the other foot. Kyouka gasped when he felt his feet phase into the water, but he quickly made sure his feet were getting enough chakra to keep it steady. Seeing her students succeed, Kyoko smiled.

"Wonderful! You guys are doing great!" praised Kyoko. "Right then, now I want you to walk to the other side."

They nodded and started taking steps. But immediately two things went wrong. One; Kagami's left leg suddenly got submerged in the water. Second; Kyouka felt his sandals and feet get wet.

"What? What happened?" Kyouka asked, baffled

"I thought I put in enough chakra," Kagami said with a frown.

Kyoko watched as they struggled to reapply the right amount back into their feet again. Meanwhile, Akimitsu kept on walking with no trouble, albeit really slowly and by the way he was glancing back at his siblings, he didn't want to go on without them.
