After a year had passed since the destruction of the Elves' kingdom by the necromancer and his headless knight giants, I, Knight Cyran, bid our farewell to the Elves. Their king waved back at me with eyes full of respect and gratitude. It was a bittersweet moment, as I knew that our work was not yet done. The next day, Knight Maria, a retired bandit leader, and I decided to patrol the streets of the Kingdom Gem Castle.
Our first stop was the newly established building called "Request Mercenary." This place was filled with requests from both inside and outside the castle. To be registered here, one had to be experienced, skilled in combat, possess vast knowledge, and have the determination to see a request through to the end. It was a place where mercenaries could find work and help the kingdom in various ways.
Knight Maria and I entered the building, scanning the requests posted on the board. The difficulty of each request was indicated by the color of the paper it was written on. White papers represented easy level requests, such as finding missing pets or helping with chores. Green papers indicated normal level requests, like escorting, guarding, or delivering items. Blue papers were for hard level requests, such as slaying specific monsters or hunting down criminals. Purple papers denoted expert level requests, like going to war or defending a kingdom. And finally, red papers were reserved for disaster level requests, such as slaying dragons, defeating monster lords, or eradicating evil organizations.
After inspecting the requests, Knight Maria and I decided to take a break at a nearby tavern inn. We filled our stomachs and enjoyed a moment of respite. Little did we know that danger lurked just around the corner. As we prepared to leave, a man suddenly drew his sword and swung at me with the intention to behead me. Instinctively, I dodged the attack, while Knight Maria swiftly sent him flying with a powerful back kick. But it turned out that he was not alone. Five more attackers emerged, ready to fight.
Three of them charged at me simultaneously, their swords aimed at my life. With a swift motion, I swung my greatsword named "Valor" and defeated them in a single slash. Meanwhile, Knight Maria faced off against a skilled opponent. Their swords clashed, sparks flying with each clash. The expert level attacker proved to be a formidable opponent, but I had faith in Knight Maria's abilities. I chose not to intervene, knowing that she was more than capable of handling herself. After a fierce battle, Knight Maria emerged victorious, her opponent exhausted and defeated.
As we sat down, our chairs surrounded by the wreckage of a broken table, I couldn't help but comment on Knight Maria's performance. "Finally, Knight Maria became a little rusty, huh," I said with a chuckle. Knight Maria laughed in response, admitting, "I can't help it. He had some skill with a sword." We both knew that even the best warriors could have their off days.
Knight Maria then pondered aloud about the identity of our attackers. "Who are these fools that dare to attack you, Sir Cyran? Don't they know who you are, the best knight of the Kingdom Gem Castle?" I laughed, shaking my head. "I wish that were the case, Knight Maria. But sometimes, people are just foolish enough to challenge those they shouldn't."
Little did they know that danger lurked just outside its doors. As they stepped foot outside, their eyes widened in surprise at the sight that greeted them.
"Sir Cyran, I think this is a serious matter. How are we supposed to deal with this?" Knight Maria exclaimed, her voice filled with shock and concern.
"You are right, Knight Maria. This is indeed a serious matter," Sir Cyran replied calmly, his hand instinctively reaching for his trusty greatsword. "But fear not, my friend. We shall face this challenge head-on."
With a determined expression, Sir Cyran closed the door of the tavern inn and prepared himself for the impending battle. "Don't worry about their numbers, Knight Maria. There may be twenty expert-level attackers, but we are more than capable of handling them."
