Dawnblaze's optics shot open as she bolted upwards, gasping for air. Once she was fully awake, she was surprised to see she's in a completely different place. She looked down and realized she has been resting on a berth in what seemed to be in a medical area. But her curiosity had won out, Dawnblaze started looking around carefully.
The base seemed hidden within an old Cold War bunker (in which she had researched about), a massive underground facility that's a high-tech command center filled with advanced technology. It was an enormous, chamber-like room enclosed by a blend of metal and rock, filled with unique technology.
A white and orange medical officer bot named Ratchet had immediately turned around upon hearing the spark monitor go up and tried to calm her down from her panic. "Lay back down! You don't want to reopen those injuries."
Her optics were wide with fear and she began to curl in herself, grimacing as it irritated her wounds. Despite the pain, she scooted away from them. In her current state, Optimus thought she looked just as afraid and helpless as a sparkling.
"It's okay." Dawnblaze winced at the new voice that reverberated from behind her. It was a voice that was, to put it bluntly, shockingly deep and resounding. At the same time, though, it wasn't exactly intimidating. It was difficult to explain; like, as powerful as it was, there was a certain warmth and reassurance to it. "You crash landed here, on a planet called Earth. We found you amongst the wreckage and brought you back to our base for medical repair." She felt herself shrink like a frightened sparkling as a new bot have joined them. She was met with the mech she least expected to help any one of her kind: Optimus Prime.
"O-Optimus? Optimus Prime? B-but why?... Why would you help me? I'm a Decepticon..." Dawnblaze looked downward. "O-or I was."
Optimus Prime smiled gently. "It is not the Autobot way to destroy the weak and defenseless."
Dawnblaze took this in for a few moments, feeling oddly at peace with the Prime's words. She slowly unwrapped her arms from around her frame before stating humbly. "T-thank you then, for saving me."
Arcee frowned as she quietly joined them and gazed at the golden and silver femme Seeker youngling. "What happened? What made you join the Decepticon in the first place?"
Dawnblaze sighed mournfully, clearly an old wound seemed to be scraped over her spark. "The only reason I have joined those barbarians was because of my brother... Now that he is offline, I have no reason to go back. I suffered under Megatron's rule for most of my life." She looked up and met Optimus's optics. "My designation is Dawnblaze." She groaned as she felt a sharp pain starting at her wings slowly move downwards to her barely welded together wounds. She steadied herself on the medical table and sat down, her vision going in and out of focus.
"Up, up, up! There will be no moving until you are fully healed," Ratchet insisted.
"If only I wasn't foolish enough to destroy my escape pod, then I wouldn't be in this mess..." She vented and reached behind her, tentatively touching her injured wing before withdrawing her servo and hissing in pain. "Well, at least my wings are still attached." Dawnblaze smiled at the medic gratefully before turning to look at the Prime. "I thank you for your kindness, but I must leave soon." She was about to get up, but Ratchet pushed down onto the berth.
Optimus seemed to dwell upon something, thoughts whirring through his processor. It would be cruel to allow her to leave. Who knew what horrors she had to suffer at the hands of the Decepticons... and the look of utter helplessness in her optics when she arrived. The Prime did not have the spark to let her go. "If you wish... you can stay here. You said so yourself that you wanted nothing more to do with the Decepticons."
"Optimus!" Arcee exclaimed indignantly. "Letting her in our base is one thing, but letting her become an Autobot when we clearly know nothing about her is pure insanity."
"I hate to agree with Arcee, but aren't you the least bit suspicious, Optimus?" added Bulkhead. "I know she's just a kid, but who knows what she could do if she decides to turn on us?"
"I am." Optimus nodded understandingly. "She will, of course, be under constant surveillance until she proves herself worthy of becoming a true Autobot. If she does not obey our laws, then she will be expelled from base immediately."
Dawnblaze studied the Prime in disbelief and genuine shock. Having them treat her wounds was one thing, but the offer of asylum was more than she could bear. Perhaps... Perhaps the tales about Autobot brutality were wrong.
She smiled softly, in what looked like pure relief, a faraway look emerging on her faceplates and her blue optics shone with emotional relief and hope as she gazed at them. "Truly? I can stay?... No more death... no more pain... No more torment..."
Dawnblaze dwelt more on their offer. The war. The war always hardened otherwise innocent mechs and femmes. The war caused untold amounts of death and suffering... The war took her brother away from her. He died fighting for the Decepticon cause, and for what? More death and suffering. It made Dawnblaze's tanks unsettled. They are the ones who killed him and now, she wanted nothing more to do with them.
Optimus smiled softly at the hopeful look in her optics, but he gained a firm look. "First, we live on this planet as robots in disguise. The humans, all of them except our charges, must not know of our existence. You will have to obtain an Earth based vehicle mode also. Secondly, there will be no harming the humans whatsoever. We are here to protect them and any disobedience of this rule will be swiftly punished."
Dawnblaze nodded solemnly. "Of course... and I am allowed to fly? Because, I am sure you realize what happens to Seekers when they are deprived of flight."
"I am aware," said Optimus. "When you have recovered, you will be bridged to a random location on Earth and your every move will be monitored. You will be given a set amount of time for flight and then you must land and return to base. Do you understand?"
She vented. "I understand. I promise you that I will uphold these rules as best as I can. And I assure you, I am a femme of my word." Dawnblaze ran a servo across the Decepticon symbol etched into her chassis. "As long as you remove this pit-spawned symbol, I will do anything you ask."
