I swallowed hard. Why would he be here? He had changed out of his blazer, and exchanged it with a simple white t-shirt. I sat frozen, as he stood there, grinning charmingly at me.
"Ms. Port, hello." he spoke, breaking the silence.
I got up, out of my bed, and stood in front of him, at my dorm room door. "Uh, Professor Styles, hi. I, um, is there something wrong?"
A wide smile spread across his face, and soon, heavy chuckles shook his body.
"Ms. Port, I just came by to talk to you about... oh, nevermind. I shouldn't."
He looked defeated, and I was curious to know what he was going to say.
"No, tell me. It's fine." I said, insistingly.
"I, I..." he laughed at himself, as he shook his head. "It's nothing. Sorry for bothering you, Skylar." he said. He was beginning to turn away, when I pulled him back by his shoulder. He looked into my eyes, with a open mouth.
"Tell me." I said.
"I, I wanted to know if you, if you had a spare English textbook. I'm afraid I locked my teacher's edition in my office, and I-" he patted down his pockets and shrugged. "I locked my keys in there, as well."
I looked at his face, still flawless as ever, before I went into the room to grab my book from my bag. "Uh, here." I said, handing him my book. He smiled at me, as he took it.
"Thanks, Ms. Port. Means a lot. I'll be sure to return it to you during class tomorro-"
"I have a break from classes tomorrow, actually." I told him.
He nodded. "Ah, that must be convenient." he said.
I nodded my head in agreement.
"Well uh, I should probably get going, I have papers to grade. They don't grade themselves, you know."
I grinned. "Of course. Heh, uh, goodnight." I said.
"Goodnight, Ms. Port." he said, just before he turned around, and walked back down the hall.
I closed my door, as he left, and shuffled over to my bed, where I pulled out my phone. I dialed Abbie's number.
"You won't believe it." she said, in a high pitched voice.
"Well hello to you, too. But what?" I asked, settling into my mattress. I couldn't help but think about Mr. Styles standing in my doorway, moments before.
"Jason. The cute Jason... He's having a small college get together. And we're invited!" Abbie said, more exited than she should sound.
"And?"
"And?! And that means we've been invited to our first ever college get together ever!" she yelped. I could hear Ashley screaming in the background.
"Um, okay?" I said, with irritation in my tone. "But, I-I have studying, an-"
"Me and Ashley are meeting you in your dorm tomorrow night, at 7. You better be ready. We're going."
"Bu-" but before I could even reply, she had hung up, and the phone line beeped.
To get my mind off of things, I was just going to study, but then I remembered, Mr. Styles had my textbook.
