CHAPTER 1
I didn't know how much time had passed, perhaps minutes, hours, days, months or even years. I could perceive nothing of my surroundings or where I was. I was floating or swimming - I didn't know - in a soothing calm. Was this what it was like to die? To feel nothing forever? I wanted this feeling of well-being to remain as it was forever.
But how had I ended up here? What had happened? Faces quickly came to mind, adults, two boys with blond and brown hair respectively, in front of a girl and a boy with black hair. Then, other heads, as well as that of a handsome dark-haired boy. My heart sank when I saw him. But I couldn't understand why, because I couldn't remember who he was. In fact, I couldn't remember anything at all.
I was fine with this atmosphere, if to rest in peace you had to forget everything you knew, I'd accept it. And anyway, in a way, I'd already left everything behind, so nothing really mattered.
When I let this unknown space cover me, I did have one last thought.
Who was I?
⭐
I woke up with a start, sweating profusely. I'd had a strange dream, a dream where I was dying. A dream where I was part of a family that magnified magic. How imaginative I could be sometimes!
I sat up slightly on my bed. Why did I always unconsciously keep this desperate fear inside me? I was alive and all was well, so there was nothing to worry about.
I cast a quick, circular glance around me. Where was I? I tried to stand up, but my limbs were so numb that I didn't have enough strength to do so - I guess I hadn't moved in a while.
I found myself in a small room with wooden walls and a few draughts. There weren't many objects in the room, apart from a bed, a piece of furniture and a wardrobe.
The door in front of me suddenly opened to let in a young man in his early twenties. He was tall, about a head taller than me, with short dark red hair.
- Don't come any closer!" I cried, frightened.
I didn't know what he wanted with me, if he was going to hurt me and bake me like in the children's books. I'd only just begun to believe that these were false stories, but I had to believe that they weren't.
Seeing that I was afraid of him, he stepped back and tried to look as unthreatening as possible.
- Calm down, if you make any sudden moves, you could hurt yourself.
- Between the two of us, I don't know who could hurt me more.
I glared at him, hoping to scare him off, although I doubted it would really scare him off, but it worked.
As the stranger backed away, a young girl entered the room.
- Joy, you're awake!" she said with a big smile. Is this how you thank your savior?
She came over and hugged me to the point of suffocation.
- I'm so glad to know you're alive. I really thought it was going to be the end this time, but we got through it, Tyna didn't win.
Tyna? So everything that had happened wasn't a dream, it was reality. Suddenly, it all came flooding back. Of course it was real!
- Zoé... Is that you?
The girl pulled away from me.
- Who else could it be?
I was having trouble putting it all together again, missing far too much information.
