In the episode "keep it together" it shows weird gem fusions they are actually gem shards stuck together and they fused. The picture shows four gems and four gem stuck together and fusing to make a weird mass of a fusion. Garnet said "this is what peridot thinks of fusion". To be honest it really sad to see those gem stuck together and forced to fuse to survive.
