Denmark's POV

1412...

The year means something to me. Believe it or not, I actually have a soft spot for all the rulers. All my rulers. But on this gloomy morning, chilly and rainy and gray, Margaret 1 of Denmark passed away.

I stood with the others, looking down at her as she was loaded onto a ship and positioned in a comfortable looking way, jewels and precious metals laid around her and necklaces and fine blankets draped over her like a quilt. She looked as beautiful and fair as she had many years ago. Almost like she wasn't dead, just asleep, and would stay that way for a thousand years. But no, Margaret was gone. My friend even...

I can honestly say I haven't cried much in my life, but that morning it was like I let everything out I had held in for so long. I couldn't stop. It began to rain harder, to the point to where you couldn't distinguish the tears down my cheeks with it. And as they began to throw soil and other dirt mixtures over Margaret's body, I fell to the ground.

My knees hit the soaked wood of the dock, hard. I cried out, "it's not really happening. Its all a dream she's still here."
But she wasn't. And this wasn't a dream. She really was gone. Gone forever and trapped in the cold clammy palms of death himself. A hand touched my back and I looked up to see Norway, a pained look on his face.

"We can't stand to see you like this....you haven't been this way since Olav's death in 1387... She was a great ruler but it's time to let go...." Norway said, kneeling down next to me and holding Iceland a little closer to him with his other arm. Sweden and Finland stepped a bit closer to the three of us and I could tell that for once Sweden actually had sympathy for me. Finland sniffled either from the cold or from crying as well.

"LIGHT IT UP!" screamed one of the ship mates. I looked up at the ship where her body was, ignoring all the things the others were saying to me that I assumed was supposed to be calming. Then I remembered something, and that something was dangling from my neck.

"Wait!" I screamed back. The man was ready to set the boat ablaze, and he didn't look all that happy that I was delaying anything. I raced onto the flat topped boat and stood over where Margaret's body was, now covered completely in dirt. I rested my hand on the dirt and uttered a short prayer before slowly removing my thick and heavy bear skin Shaw from my shoulders and resting it atop the pile.

The medallion hanging from my neck was soon removed, solid gold with jewels of peridot, ruby, saphire, and diamonds dotting it. Placing it on my shaw and walking off the boat and onto the dock. And as the boat burned, and crackled under the bright flames I shivered. Not from the cold, but the sickening thought of this really being the end to Margaret's long, happy life.

I turned around and started walking, no intentions of stopping. That is until a tug came on my shirt. Norway looked at me with wide eyes full of pity. He opened his mouth to say something, but instead shook his head and gave me a quick hug.

"Let's go guys..." I turned to walk away again but a silent mumble came instead of the other four following me.

"Denmark? Me and Sweden have been thinking and we-" Finland began, but I quickly cut him off.

"I said, let's go." I snapped. Not even feeling sorry for anything, not caring about what everyone else wanted. What was best for them and for me. For us. I walked away again and this time they followed.

Sweden wrapped and arm around Finland and directed him after me. Norway leant down after a bit to pick up Iceland, who asked in the most innocent voice his young cute self could manage, "Is Dane going to be okay?"

Norway shrugged, hoisting his little brother up higher on his hip. He shook his head.

"I don't know...don't worry about it."

But something had changed in me. And I didn't notice it at first. But the others did. What Norway said wasn't the best advice he could have given. I was a force to be reckoned with. And only now do I realize, it wasn't how I was feeling they should be worrying about.

It was me.

Finally getting this part up woop woop! I know Sweden and Finland didn't really say anything not his chapter butt hat change later. Also, you actually see a bit of sufin and dennor in this chapter bc that's where it all begins in the budding relationships! And isn't Iceland so cute as a child? I think so too. The next chapters will actually get conflict and stuff. I try to update soon. Thanks for reading!
