"Y/N, can you help me move this box please?" My mother asked from behind me.
I turned to see my small mother struggling to lift one of our moving boxes out the carriage. Her beautiful dark blue eyes matching my own looked exhausted from our move as I rushed over to help her.
I easily picked up a box from her hands and started to bring it into our new home. We just moved to a small section of Tokyo called Azusa to start fresh after the passing of my father. After I went back to the carriage, I was relieved to see my mother sitting down finally and caring for my infant brother. He was cooing happily.
"Do you need some help moving?" A girl with pink and green hair suddenly asked me. She was a few inches taller than me wearing a white flowery kimono and had a beaming smile that made my heart jump into my throat.
"Yes, but they are quite heavy. You don't have to-" I started to explain but she already loaded up three of my heaviest boxes in her arms. She's impressive. She looks to be my age as well as I picked up another two boxes.
"Wow, you are so talented!" I said in a state of shock.
She must have seen my expression as she turned to me with a smile. "You are pretty strong too! Is this your new house?" She asked as she gestured with her head to my new cottage. I nodded my head 'yes' as we approached.
It was small, but cute. My mother picked it out for us, desperate to get away from the pain of our grief and make new, happy memories. The cottage was brightly colored and inviting. I opened the door for the girl and invited her in.
"Thank you so much. Your strength is amazing. What is your name?" I asked her shyly. I felt my face heating up when I noticed her soft sweet eyes staring back at me. I had never seen someone look at me so happy and genuine before.
"Mitsuri Kanroji! What is yours?" She exclaimed happily. I smiled back at her. The energy she emitted was infectious and it filled me with warmth I had forgotten about for awhile.
"Y/N L/N," I said as she excitedly grabbed my hands, flustering me more. Her skin felt so soft, like silk.
"Let's be friends! I can show you around the town if you like!" She offered excitedly as I shyly nodded 'yes'. She let out a happy sequel and started skipping towards to help me bring in the rest of my moving boxes.
With her help, we were done in a flash. I started to unpack my kitchen items while she struck up a conversation with my exhausted mother. Even through the exhaustion though, my mother maintained her kind eyes and seemed to be enjoying Mitsuri's company.
I finally found everything I needed for the kitchen and started to prepare some rice balls and Sakura mochi. The mochi reminded me of Mitsuri's hair as she came back to me excitedly.
"Wow! It seems amazing! Do you enjoy cooking?" She asked me. I smiled at her as I brought a plate of mochi and other snacks I made to her.
"Yes I do! I made these for you to say thank you for helping my family today! Sakura mochi reminded me of your hair as well, it's beautiful," I said with a smile. My heart was beating loudly in my chest and I saw a slight blush appear on her face.
"Thank you very much," she said as she started to eat with me. She had a large appetite, but she fawned over my cooking making me happy. No one has ever appreciated my cooking so much before. I thought she seemed so cute when she ate so much as well, finishing everything I prepared for her with ease.
After we finished eating, I told Mitsuri goodnight as she went to her own home. Maybe living in this new village won't be so bad?
