To think... a formless being like Sleep could be so... The words failed Vessel as he thought them, the deity's movements stealing away any thoughts he may have.

"P-please I cant-" He was cut off by a deep moan carving its way through him, another throbbing sensation taking over for a second.

To think this deity would leave him shaking, begging for more... had always been beyond him.

__

It had been a week, a single week that Vessel had grown too curious too quickly. He could feel Sleep's distant eyes on him, observing his every movement, his every action.

Vessel knew the god was aware of what he had been doing. He wanted to know what would happen if he pushed the god away, went out of his way to push them to the last nerve... and that's what he did. All week long.

Vessel knelt before the altar now, his head bowed to the floor as it typically would have been. The candles flickered peacefully around him as he worshiped, the one thing he knew far better than to ignore the responsibility of. Even if he was trying to piss off Sleep, he didn't want to present rebellion again- it hadn't ended well the first time and he wasn't trying to push Sleep all the way to the edge.

The memories of it clouded his thoughts as he shifted slightly, eyes trained up at the dimly lit altar. So many questions were still left unanswered, but for now... he would continue to bury that history deep. A few minutes passed in that eerie silence, something that Vessel had once more grown accustomed to. It had become a comfort to him, but also a bloody violence he never told the other 3 about.

III knew and didn't approve. IV knew and didn't want to come close again. II had never had that experience with Sleep, and the 3 female vessels... he wasn't quite sure. They weren't around as much, supposedly having a different mission in the light from the mutual god. Vessel almost envied them. Almost.

One of the candle lights flickered out, the wax pooling up around the wick just enough to snuff it out. Vessel's eyes shifted to it, watching the smoke gather in the air above with a bit of tension in his muscles. The smoke continued to rise in the air, ascending until it hit the damp, vine covered roof above and dissipated into the air.

Normal. It was normal.

A few seconds more passed before Vessel actually got up, walking out the same way he had come in. It had been strangely quiet today, Sleep's silence was unnerving. The god was typically there waiting when one of its vessels came to worship, not a single day had gone by where Sleep hadn't been there for him.

A tinge of guilt pulled at Vessel, a hint of worry lacing into his step as he made his way back to the manor hidden deep within the woods Sleep claimed as its own. Its vessels had been permitted to wander here by the god, they had come to refer to the space as "Eden" despite it having nothing to do with the garden from the bible.

Sleep had told the stories before, shared minimal information about a place it called Eden, mentioned small things in the area that reminded it of its home. It was no surprise really when the vessels started to pick up on the language, this hidden space slowly becoming home for most of them.

Sleep's words echoed through Vessel's mind again, the story it told II when it hadn't realized he was still awake. It probably knew and he had known that for a long time, though Sleep never mentioned it again. Even then, Vessel had never truly felt bad listening to a story that wasn't meant for him, his desire to connect with the god refusing to allow it to happen.
