Lan Yibo POV:
I woke up one night feeling thirsty, when I gasped, noticing the time. It was three in the morning. I tried to go back to sleep, but just couldn't. My thirst was killing me, making me toss and turn around on the bed. In the end, I angrily got up and went towards the kitchen for a glass of water.
As I walked towards the kitchen, I suddenly spotted someone moving in the dark, nearly making my heart jump out of my chest in fear. I breathed in deeply and realised that it was just my older twin brother, Lan Zhan. I was stunned. What was he doing so late at night without sleeping. And he looked super suspicious.
I silently followed him as he went down to his basement and was surprised to see him open a door I had never seen before. However, just before he could enter, he turned around and saw me, and my heart nearly jumped out of my chest.
"Don't you dare breathe a word about this to anyone! Especially dad!" Lan Zhan grit through his teeth as his angry, bitter sandalwood pheromones filled the air. I suffocated for a short moment before I nodded. "B-but... what's inside that room?" I asked, my voice no bigger than a whisper. Lan Zhan didn't say a word and simply patted my head and smirked. "The devil himself." Saying so, Lan Zhan closed the door and locked it, leaving me outside, shaking in fear and confusion. Oh god! That can't be a red room now can it?!

The next morning, I went towards that door and was stunned to see it padlocked with no way to open it. My god. What was Lan Zhan hiding in there? It was killing me with curiosity. That evening at dinner, I finally asked. "What was that room, ge?" "What room are you talking about?" Lan Zhan asked, making me stare at him feeling stupefied. "That room you entered in the basement last night?" "Huh? Are you sure you're not dreaming? Because I was fast asleep last night." What?! What a big fat lie!
I was just about to confront him when dad suddenly sat at the dining table. "A-Zhan, it's time for you to take over the company. We will be holding a gala party next weekend and introduce you to everyone. They're all very excited to meet you." "But dad-" Lan Zhan started to speak but was cut off by our father. "No buts. You're graduating in a few months, so prepare yourself. I don't want any troubles, understood?" Father said as he glared at Lan Zhan.
Of course, my brother couldn't say no to my father and nodded. He was always dad's favorite. And why was that? Because he was an alpha, and I was an omega! I hated it! He was the golden boy, the perfect son. While I was just a stranger to dad. If mom was alive, I was sure things would've been different.

Late at night, I was just about to go to bed, when Lan Zhan flung open my door and leaned against it, nearly making me scream. However, I quickly calmed down and spoke up. "Can I help you?" I asked. "What makes you feel alive, Yibo?" Lan Zhan asked, making me feel puzzled. "What do you mean? You're being weird you know?" I asked in the end. "The less you know, the better. Goodnight, peanut." Saying so, Lan Zhan closed the door, leaving me totally puzzled. Peanut? Where did that come from? That was the weirdest and longest interactions we ever had.
Lan Zhan was older than me by a minute, and we were never close while growing up. He mostly spent his time being holed up in his room reading, practicing the piano, or with dad talking about business while playing chess. We never even saw each other often at school, since he was always with his best friend, and my crush, Wei Zhan, or be surrounded by their crazy fan girls.
The next morning, I woke up to dad screaming from the library. I dashed over to check what it was and found out that one of our maids found a letter under Lan Zhan's pillow. I froze when I read the letter. Lan Zhan left. He didn't say where he went, and when he was coming back. All the note said was 'Do not wait for me.'
