Don't Do That

this is for all my lip-picking girlies

You were picking at your lips again. It was subconscious at this point, and you sometimes didn't even know you were doing it until Margot would kiss you and your lips would sting or she would pull away and feel blood dripping down her chin. That happened today. Margot had gotten home and pecked your lips quickly, then let you go back to what you were cooking.

She knit her eyebrows together when she felt something warm trickle down her chin. She put her hand up to it and wiped it off. Exasperation became evident in her features when she saw what it was.

You shrugged and apologised.

She sat down on the counter and watched you cook. She stopped you from picking at your lips again while you waited for the rice to finish.

"Don't do that," she whined softly, grabbing your wrist and pulling it down.

Your tongue ran over your bottom lip. The taste of blood filled your mouth, and your lip stung in pain.

Margot sighed and pulled you closer to her. You now stood between her legs, looking up at her.

Her eyes traced over your lips. One corner was slightly bigger, courtesy of a particularly deep piece of skin being peeled off. You had wounds all over your lips, making it look as if you'd been in a fight. Your bottom lip was worse than the top one, and Margot couldn't help but feel a pang of concern. "Seriously, love, we've got to do something about this," she said, her fingers gently brushing over the wounded area. You winced at the touch, but Margot was always gentle, filled with care.

She reached for her purse and pulled out a stick of lip balm. "Let's try this. It might help," Margot suggested, and you nodded, allowing her to apply the balm to your chapped lips. The cool sensation brought relief, and you couldn't help but smile at her attentiveness.

"Maybe we should find a distraction for you, so you don't pick at your lips," Margot mused, a playful glint in her eyes. You chuckled, appreciating her attempt to lighten the mood. "Any suggestions?" you asked, looking up at her.

Margot grinned mischievously. "Well, I can think of a few..." she trailed off, leaning in for a sweet kiss, careful not to disturb your lips. The taste of the lip balm lingered, and for a moment, all worries faded away as you shared a quiet, tender moment in the kitchen.
