Margot Robbie and Y/N Y/L/N Talk About Their Latest Blockbuster and Their On-Screen Romance: An Exclusive Interview
In the world of Hollywood, Margot Robbie has become a name synonymous with versatility and dedication. From her breakout role in The Wolf of Wall Street to her iconic portrayal of Harley Quinn, Robbie continues to captivate audiences with her talent and charisma. Now, she stars in a new, highly anticipated film, Ethereal Echoes, alongside her talented co-star and partner, Y/N Y/L/N. This is their very first project in which they work together, and we sat down with Robbie and Y/L/N to discuss their experiences working on this project and the challenges and rewards that came with it.
Interviewer: Margot, Y/N, thank you both for joining us today. Ethereal Echoes has generated a lot of excitement. Can you tell us a bit about the film and your characters?
Robbie: Thank you for having us! Ethereal Echoes is, um, a sci-fi fantasy adventure, with a little pinch of comedy, set in a dystopian future where the natural world and digital realms collide. I play Dr. Elara Quinn, and she's a scientist who discovers a way to communicate with digital beings trapped in a virtual dimension.
Y/L/N: I play Zephyr. She's, uh, a digital being who finds herself caught between two worlds. She's a character full of mystery and depth, and the journey she takes with Dr. Quinn is both thrilling and emotional. In my opinion, at least.
Interviewer: Margot, one of the standout aspects of the film is your co-star, Y/N, also your girlfriend. How was it acting and working alongside her, especially with this being your first film with each other?
Robbie: It was an incredible experience working with the love of my life. Y/N brought so much to the role of Zephyr, both in terms of performance and presence. Even though Zephyr is a digital being, Y/N made her feel so real and relatable. Her ability to convey emotion and nuance was remarkable, and it made the job so much easier and more enjoyable. And she was so quick. We have so many lines of hers that she had improvised completely and were kept in.
Interviewer: Y/N, this is a groundbreaking role. How did you prepare to play a digital character, and what were some of the challenges you faced?
Y/L/N: So, um, preparing for Zephyr involved a lot of research into digital technology and virtual realities. I also worked really closely with the special effects team to understand how Zephyr would—would move and interact with the environment. One of the biggest challenges was ensuring that Zephyr's emotions and experiences felt genuine, even though she's a digital entity. It required a lot of imagination and collaboration with Margot and the directors.
Interviewer: That sounds like a fascinating process. Were there any particular scenes that stood out to you both as especially challenging or rewarding?
Robbie: Definitely. There’s a pivotal scene where Dr. Quinn and Zephyr have an emotional confrontation. Conveying that depth of emotion without a physical co-star was tough, but Y/N's performance made it so incredibly rewarding. It pushed me as an actor to new limits, and seeing the final product was just amazing. The scene is so powerful because of the seamless integration of the CGI and Y/N's performance and acting.
Y/L/N: For me, one of the most challenging scenes was the final battle. It required a lot of physical acting, and mind you, I do all my stunts myself, and coordination with the effects team. But it was also one of the most rewarding because of how everything came together in the end. The energy on set was incredible, and seeing the final product was truly satisfying.
Interviewer: Beyond the technical aspects, what drew you both to the story of Ethereal Echoes?
Robbie: I was drawn to the script because it explores themes of, like, identity and belonging in a very fresh and... and relevant way. In our increasingly digital world, the lines between reality and virtual reality are truly blurring, and this film captures that beautifully. Plus, I’ve always been a fan of sci-fi and fantasy, so this was a dream project for me. Even more so when I found out I'd get to work with the woman I love.
Y/L/N: I really loved how the story tackled complex issues like technology's impact on humanity and the environment. Like... Zephyr's journey of self-discovery and her relationship with Dr. Quinn are central to the narrative, and those themes really resonated with me. It’s a story that’s both entertaining and thought-provoking.
Interviewer: It’s clear that you’re both passionate about the film. Do you have any favourite moments from the production that you’d like to share?
Robbie: Oh, gosh, so, one of my favourite moments was during the final battle scene. We shot in this really, really stunning location with amazing practical effects combined with CGI. Seeing everything come together—the costumes, the set design, the effects— it was just so magical.
Y/L/N: I’d definitely have to say my favourite moments were kissing Margot off-set. No, no, I'm kidding... my favourite moment was the first time I saw the fully rendered version of Zephyr on screen. It was surreal to see this character that we’d worked so hard on come to life so vividly. It was a moment of pride and excitement that I’ll never forget.
Interviewer: The chemistry between your characters is undeniable. How did your real-life relationship influence your on-screen dynamic?
Robbie: Having a real connection with Y/N definitely made our on-screen relationship more authentic. It definitely didn't feel as if it was our first ever picture together. We were able to bring a lot of genuine emotion to our scenes together. It was wonderful to share this experience with someone I love and care so much about.
Y/L/N: Agreed. Knowing Margot so well allowed us to explore our characters' relationship in a deeper way. We trust each other completely, which made the emotional scenes more impactful and the overall experience way more enjoyable.
Interviewer: It sounds like Ethereal Echoes is set to be a hit. What do you hope audiences take away from the film?
Robbie: I really hope audiences are entertained but also moved by the story. I think there are some very poignant messages about humanity, technology, and the environment that will resonate with people. And, of course, I hope they fall in love with Zephyr as much as I did!
Y/L/N: I hope viewers see the potential for empathy and understanding between different kinds of beings, whether digital or human. It's a story about bridging gaps and finding common ground, and I think that's something everyone can relate to.
Interviewer: Margot, Y/N, thank you both so much for your time. We can’t wait to see Ethereal Echoes in theaters.
Robbie: Thank you! I can’t wait for everyone to see it too.
Y/L/N: Thank you! It’s been a pleasure talking with you.
