Niall's POV:
I thought about everything that happened last year when I planned a ski trip to Italy. This time, it was with my friends instead of my ex-girlfriend, or should I say, fiancée.
I couldn't believe that Matt, Ava, and Ryan convinced me to go with them on a ski trip to the same place where I proposed to Riley a year ago. She was the one who broke my heart and left me with nothing but myself.
Here I was with my best friends in the car on our way to Italy for our ski trip. I was relieved that Matt was driving because I was still tired from last night. Working as a singer at a bar wasn't my biggest life achievement, but what could I do to earn money when the only thing I loved was making music? Matt, Ava, and Ryan always supported my career choice, but sometimes I wasn't too sure about where it would lead me.
"Ava, why are you so quiet? I thought you wanted to entertain us the whole car ride?" Matt asked her, glancing at her reflection in the mirror.
"Um, I just felt like reading, but sure, I will put a playlist on for you." She smiled widely.
Wham started playing, and I could see Matt next to me hiding his smile. He wasn't a big Wham fan, but he loved the songs Ava sang when she was bored or in a happy mood; she even danced like George Michael.
Sometimes, Ava and Matt were just too blind to see how madly in love they were with each other. Maybe they weren't too blind, but they simply didn't want to risk destroying their amazing friendship.
But Ryan and I saw that they were meant for each other, and we always joked about getting them together so they wouldn't end up dating people as shitty as Ryan and I often did.
"Niall, do we need to go right or left?" Matt asked, but I was daydreaming, so I didn't listen to him.
"Niall? Hello? I'm talking to you," Matt asked again while tapping me on my shoulder.
"Oh, sorry, I didn't hear you. Um, I think we should turn right at the next crossing, and then we'll be at the winter cabin," I said.
"Wait, how do we get in? Do we need to call someone, or where do we get the keys from?" Ryan asked, confused.
"The keys are with the landlord, so I guess he'll be at the cabin, like the last time I was here," I told Ryan, while taking in the beautiful view.
I just loved coming here; the air felt so cold and fresh. The snow on the mountains looked so beautiful, and where I looked, everything was covered in snow. I wasn't the best at skiing, but I loved the feeling of being by myself in a snow landscape.
As we turned toward the cabin, we could see the landlord from far away. His hands were full of wood, and it seemed like he was talking to someone on his phone. Every now and then, he glanced at his watch. When our car appeared, he hung up his phone and looked relieved to see us.
"There you are," he smiled at us. "Look, there's a problem; the heater didn't turn on this morning. But I just talked to the handyman, and he'll be here by tomorrow. I got you some extra wood for the fireplace, so you won't have it too cold in there."
"Here are the keys," he handed Ava the keys to the cabin. "If you have any problems or questions, just call me. You have my number. Please have a great time." He then said goodbye to us and left in the other direction where a little path was.
"Oh, and I forgot to tell you something," he turned around, looking rather serious. "There's a snowstorm warning for tomorrow, so don't go too far outside; it's going to be a big storm." He shouted in our direction and then hurried off to his car.
"Well, that sounds scary," Ava said with a lighthearted tone.
"We're going skiing even if the storm is there right guys?" Ava asked.
The three of us all nodded at the same time, maybe it was because we enjoyed adventures so much or we thought that the storm wouldn't be too bad. Maybe it would have been smarter to believe the landlord. But how would we know, right?
The cabin was beautiful, it was a different one than last year. The windows were very big and the door was painted in this nice dark blue shade.
Ava opened the door with the keys the landlord gave us.
We closed the door behind us. Matt and Ava rushed to the bedrooms because they wanted to have the best view.
They were always teasing each other, so Matt couldn't help but laugh at Ava when she realised that she got the worst view among us.My room looked really cosy. I loved the wallpaper design with tiny skiing people. The bed looked pretty comfortable, so I allowed myself to lie down for a second. The view from my room was breathtaking.
"Niall, Ava is freezing! Do you know how to make a fire?" Matt screamed from what it looked like the living room area.
"Yes, wait, I'll show you how to do it." I stood up and left my room.
After we sat around the fireplace we decided to go outside because we were pretty hungry, and it was already 5pm.
Ava and I had a soup with bread and Ryan and Matt went for pasta. We were all so tired from the car ride that we went to bed early. But what we forgot or ignored was the big snow storm that was coming to Italy.
